I believe this photo of Otto Carius's Tiger is from when the press took his picture shortly after he knocked out the Stalin tanks.
Looking at the turret, I see no turret numbers. The balkin cross on the side indicates the white and the black would easily show up in the photo but none is seen on the turret.
The left side fenders look like they are bent almost straight out.
There is quite a bit of zimm missing around the drivers vision block.
I saw another angle of this same picture and the track is the early track without ice cleats.
Otto himself said his tank was dunklegeld. This photo is lit by light filtering through the trees and I can't detect a type camo pattern if there is one.
Am I right about the turret numbers and other details? I am getting started on a build of his tank and I want to get the details correct.
If there is something I am missing, PLEASE chime in.
Thanks!!!

This is something of a mystery, because we don't have enough photos of the Tiger from this time period. We can't even be sure that it's Carius' Tiger, other than the fact that he's using it.
The Zimmerit is badly chipped, that's for sure. The tracks are the old type. And there is a camouflage pattern; it can be seen even on the cupola hatch, as I indicate. It seems to be badly faded, and it seems to have been painted AFTER the Zimmerit came off.

David hit the important points. I think if you're referring to Tigers in the Mud, Otto could have been referring to his Early production Tiger I which was just yellow.

Yes, what was the date of the incident that you refer to?

Then I think the Mid Tiger in the photos is the relevant one. What was the date when Carius' Tiger was badly damaged?

The more I look at these pictures, the more I want to model this Tiger and all of it's tattered zimmerit.

This is his last Tiger 1. He was shot while scouting and sent back to the rear to recover where he then was assigned to a Hunting tiger company. April 20th was when the cupola was shot off and a round hit between the turret and hull. That tank was blown by engineers.
