I always seem to have at least one Sherman-family vehicle sitting on the bench.
Right now I have a few in various stages of construction:
1) Formations M4A1 is awaiting markings and final weathering. I want to do it as a vehicle from Sicily or Anzio -- need to hit the library and do a bit more research on the markings. Don't want to mess this gem up.
2) M32 tank recovery vehicle, using parts from the Italeri kit, the Tamiya M4 hull and Academy bogies. Lots to do yet on this. I'm debating over whether or not I want to take one of the Garwood winches from a Dragon Wagon kit to put in the interior ... I'll probably scratchbuild one using the kit winch as a pattern.
3) Tamiya M4 with full engine and interior. 80% done -- I really need to finish this one, too. This one has been a victim of AMS -- I have WAY too much information and keep going back and adding or "correcting" things. When it's all done, you probably won't be able to see 75% of the additions/corrections ....
4) M4A1E8 -- a variant not used in combat in WWII or Korea, but exported all over the world. Using the Dragon M4A3E8 kit with an Italeri M4A1upper hull. Suspension and lower hull complete -- just need to buckle down and finish the rest. Thinking about doing something outrageous for the markings, like Uganda or Pakistan.
5) An early M7 Priest. Though technically based on the M3, I consider the M7 part of the Sherman family of vehicles. Starting with the Italeri kit, and using bogies from the old Tamiya M3 Lee kit, I've backdated this one to be a U.S. vehicle from the Italian campaign. LOTS of work on this one, including a correct rear wall for the fighting compartment, replaced final-drive, transmission and driver position, and shortened "pulpit." It's gonna have those over-sized circled stars seen on some vehicles in Italy.
I need to get a few of these done before I start something else. It's been too cold to shoot paint in my unheated garage, so I may end up painting a bunch at once when Spring finally arrives.
