Have never done, but would really like to try and do my next build "All the way", and add details..metal barrel, etching, upgrades, metal tracks etc. Wish to do either an Eastern front, or Afrika corps Tiger in Tamiya or Dragon. Is Voyager the best? Is there an easy way to match up the proper upgrade to kit, as not all I have been finding have a model # to match it to. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

The best way for me is to head over to scalemates.com
find your model kit and they link reviews, accessories sets and books for you.....most of the time

Scalemates has a database of kits and updates that are made for that kit. I assume the database is maintained by model enthusiasts. It isn't always comprehensive, but it is a good start. I had the same problem a few years ago doing a Dragon Tiger 1 initial. I ended up buying photo etched sets by Voyager and Aber. Neither set was perfect so I used parts from both. It turned out to be a very expensive approach though. I am no Tiger expert but I did see in another thread that while there were Tigers in Africa, none of them belonged to the Africa Corps. Hope this helps!

Another option is searching on a large online shop using the name of your model and see what is available.
I can think of BNA Model World, Dersockelshop, Hobbyeasy or Luckymodel.
You can make a list then and ask for opinions.

I havbe never used Voyager sets (because they are hard to get hold of in the UK) but Griffon Model and Aber are great companies with high quality kits.

Jim: If this is your first venture into PE, I STRONGLY suggest not jumping in whole hog (metal tracks, PE, metal barrel)
The tracks may or may not be an issue -- it depends. A barrel is simple to use. The unknown is your ability to handle PE. The patience and tools required might lend to your starting on something smaller.
Perhaps get Tamiya Kit 35270, the SdKfz 222 german armored car which includes a small amount of PE and a metal barrel. (no tracks since it's wheeled). It's a nice upgrade from their 1970s era kit and could be accomplished by a PE novice.
