Dear All,
I'm finally finishing miniart 's su-76 in German service, and choose the yellow camo pattern. The question is : how thorough were the Germans when repainting captured vehicles? I assume the yellow was applied on the field - would they have bothered painting the fighting compartment? Or would they have left it green? I kind of like this version but I thought I'd ask first.

I'd say that it depended on time and resources. I've seen photos of captured AFVs that simply had a Balkenkruz hastily painted on. Then there's the T-34 that appears to have had a leisurely workshop full painting with tactical markings.
I would surmise that if there was paint and time, everything would have been painted as per any other panzer. But if time and paint were short, they might only slop on the external color and hope that Ivan would not have a chance to peek at it from above or behind.

I did a quick search for images of the Panzerjaeger SU-76(r) or Sturmgeschuetz SU-76(r). A few captured ones but none from behind/above. One good photo shows a hastily crosshatched one.

Thank you for answering. I've been on Google as well, and had no luck finding good photos... I guess I'll keep the fighting compartment green - to paint it they'd had to strip everything out. I'll go with the 'they did not have time for that' story. It just makes a nicer contrast I think
