Greg,
Hmmmm 1/32 scale? You might try and find some WWI US figures in 54mm which would be close to 1/32 scale. Imrie-Risley made several in white metal. I know Airfix made some 1/32 WWII Marine figures in that scale, but I'm not sure if their set had Springfields or M1's. The Marines used a lot of O3's early on in the Pacific. Dragon has an early WWII US Marine set with two Springfields in it in 1/35 scale, and the new ICM US WWI set has several very nice ones, but they are likely too small for 1/32. Short of that, if you could find M1's in 1/32, you might be able to do some converting by adding the "hump", reworking the stock and removing the recoil tube.

No Springfields in the Airfix set, just M1.
