Hello,

I'm building the Italeri kit for a campaign. Am curious as to what is on the side. Initially thought they were tank tracks? Maybe something to do with the towed PAK?

Cheers,

Tat

Hi!

As I know, these are ice horns or track extenders. Used on the Eastern front. They were fixed to the outer side of the track, so it became wider.

Thanks Antal! It got me stumped for a while as I have seen RSO pics that either have such hanging on its sides or none. Makes it easier to find further info now that I know what it is for. Cheers, Tat

Thanks Frenchy!

Now I have a color reference of the exposed side. Been googling around but there seems to be no period pics that have these installed except vertically -- on the sides of the bed. I read that each vehicle would have 16 of these per track side but there could be less, so I guess Italeri's 10 per track side is ok; I think DML has the same number as well. Getting a fix on what it is for sure helped dig out more info -- Gleisketten added to the vocabulary!

Cheers,

Tat
