Hi all
I'm Tuan, form Hanoi Vietnam. This is my first thread on Amorama. This is the T551/35 Trumpeter kit but i changed to t59. The kit was not accurate and the fit was bad. But it was cheaper than Tamiya kit. I used the Trumpeter 's workable track links. That was ridiculous, the Trumpeter 's track links was not fit with his own kit. If you want a shape of T55/59 tank but don't want to pay much money, this is not bad choice.
The tank in the picture were famous in Vietnam war. It was the first North Vietnam Army 's tank hit down the main gate of Republic of Vietnam 's Independence Palace where the government 's building. The symbol of the end of the war. Thanks for your watching and give me constructive feedback to improve my skill.

Incredible build, it's made all the more amazing by the fact that you overcame the build's issues!

First Tuan, welcome to Armorama ! I like your T59. You did a great job damaging the fenders. Nice weathering also. Not too much, not too little, just right in my opinion. Thank you for sharing with us !

Somewhere I have three or four photos of that particular tank. Time or Newsweek were right there when they drove thru the front gates of the Presidential Palace. I can still see the driver's face when I think about it. Does the Government of Vietnam have that tank on display?

Apparently a replica. The original tank's location is unknown..

Interesting, I thought 844 was the first one through the gates, probably the pic Gary is talking about too.

On a side note, it is a Chinese Type 59 tank though, not a T59.

there's actual film footage of that tank knocking the gates open. The photos I have are from the opposite side of the tank, and were taken by a German if memory serves me right. The Time magazine piece is a good read, and fairly accurate.

I never made it to Saigon, and had in for an R&R at Vung Tao, but got nicked Labor Day week in 68. Girl friend and I plan on a visit to Ho Chi Mein City, and all points north. Plan on spending a week in Ho Chi Mein City.

Glad to see your T-59, Tuan. Your tank is great and I like it. This is my T-59 from Trumpeter which I built 5 years ago as a gift for my friend. This T-59 served as the lead tank in Dong Ha, Quang Tri in 1972.

Happy to receive any comment and feedback.
