Could it be just T-72, mod. 1989 with that new Syrian-made ADS?

I would be surprised to hear that the Russians were using T-80's in Syria -I doubt that they would hand them over to Assad's forces

I highly doubt they would be of much use to the Syrian Army given their gas turbine engines (unless they're UD's). Can the OP share the video allegedly showing the T-80U's?

Most likely it was a T-90 that was in the news.

It seemed to absorb that hit pretty well. You can see the crew bailing out at the end. Wonder if the tank is repairable???

All speculation without any post attack photos, but it looks like the crew bailed partly because the hatch was open when the missile hit. Not sure what is going on at this point, but the tank did not pop-a-top nor start on fire, so take that for what it is worth.

Would this be a T-90A or a T-90? And is it a Syrian T-90 or a Russian T-90? Just thinking that would be a good build for one of the Meng kits I have. The other videos I found look like they have the three tone green/tan/black schemes but its hard to tell with all the dust https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhwFYAHsUu0

Is this really T-90-s? I'm not 100% sure... least to say. Most likely could be T-72BMs at most

There a many photgraphed Russian T-90's in Syria right now, don't think I've seen and Russian T-72.

You can see that the turret has the Shtora System on it. I could be wrong but I don't believe that the T72BM has that installed on it.

hard to tell the different between T-80 and T-90,but there is no doubt what I see in the TV,the turrent carry arena ADS.
Giving the large number of assad's tanks and IFV destroyed by ATGM and RPG,the only solution was arena ads.

The crew bailed out. If the tank wasn't hit hard and at minimum, seriously damaged, they would have stayed put. Doesn't really speak much to the ability of that tank to take a hit. The TOW's being used appear to be the original version, circa-1972. Later versions of the TOW were specifically designed to defeat reactive / advanced armor. From all that I have read, these variants haven't been introduced (yet).
