Whilst perusing the "models" section of Wal-Mart (waiting for my post-op meds prescription), I happened upon the 1/32 "Motorworks" line of semi-finished models. The PzKpfw III Ausf. D (really an E) and the M4 caught my eye. Both are assembled by workers using heated rods (I'm guessing) to melt the parts together, feaure totally yucky finishes ( yellow spots over green on the III, black streaks for weathering on the M4), but they've got POSSIBILITIES. I'm envisioning a pleasant weekend or two re-painting, marking, weathering (the IIIE has just gotta be a Befehlspanzer in the Polish/French Campaign w/ a clothesrail antenna, the Sherman, a canvas for log and sand-bag field add-on armor). The point is I'll be able to put them on my desk at school, without fearing "little hands" will destroy that $35.00 kit, $10 decals, and $50 in PE/resin. Just wish Modelworks did a T-34 (they do a Panther, but my WallyWorld doesn't stock it). Suddenly, modeling looks like FUN again!!
