I would like to do a diorama of this battle. What tank would be appropriate for this battle?
Thanks

You could do an Army or Marines M48, or a South Vietnamese Chaffee... Check your resources to decide on what specific tank you want to model, but I think Dragon's M48A3 could work.

The battle of Hue was for the most part a Marine and ARVN
battle, but tanks were limited players. The Ontos or ground troops did the majority of the fighting with some M48s. Also the Mules with recoilless rifles.Later M41 ARVN and Army M48s were involved

Tried to find photographic evidence of Army Dusters in Hue, during the tet 68 battles. This is the best I could come up with. Hope it helps. The Photograph I have is from the book Tracks by Simon Dunstan, and shows an Army Duster making its way down a st in Hue city.

Hi, Mike! Numerous photos exist of US Marine M48A3s assisting USMC Infantry during Tet, Battle of Hue... In COLOR... GREAT reference material...
DRAGON's #3546 M48A3 would make a very good starting point. It is entirely correct for a USMC M48A3. In addition, DEF MODELS makes a VERY NICE resin Drive Sprocket & Rear Engine Grates Update, along with an M48A3 Basic Update set, which includes a new Searchlight, Searchlight Cover, Cables & Fittings, and I believe a replacement Main Gun Mantlet Cover. LEGEND makes several different resin "Vietnam" Stowage sets, and also resin "Sandbag Armor" sets. All of these sets will do much to improve that VERY NICE DRAGON M48A3 kit.
If you don't like "DS" Tracks, I suggest either the BRONCO or AFV CLUB T97E2 Track sets. As for Infantry, BRAVO-6 is the way to fly...
Happy Trails-

Hey Mike,
There's loads of options for using the M48 or the Ontos, north or south of the Perfume river. Battles raged in both locations. I read quite a few books and scoured the inet for details before I built my Hue dio. it's a great project to build, so have fun and keep us posted.
Cheers, Ski.

I'd check Eric Hammel's book Fire in the Streets: The Battle for Hue, Tet 1968 has a bunch of pictures from Hue; you could also check the USMC Historical Division, they have their historical pubs available as PDFs.
