I have a bottle of Ambroid EZ Mask and the only time I've used it I wasn't impressed. I tried it on a 1/48 B17 and I couldn't peel it off properly without scratching off a lot of the paint I had put down first. Are there any good tricks on using this stuff?

Depends on how you're using it. I've always found the best way to remove it is to dip a cotton bud in the masking fluid and let it dry. Then use this to rub over the model and the Maskol 'sticks' to it.

I have had the same problem. Tips are:
1. Apply paint as soon as masking liquid is dry.
2. Remove masking liquid as soon as paint is dry.
3. If masking liquid is difficult to remove, keep wetting with water until it returns to the blue color in the bottle.
4. I use a product called Mold Builder (purchased at Michael's) for masking. I use the same process as above but have a much wider window for removal.
Hope this helps.

Hello, just a thought but wouldnt the liquid latex used to make molds work for masking? Cheers Kevin

Hi Kevin
That's exactly what I use - it's much cheaper than commercial masking fluid and works perfectly. :-)
Rodger, one old trick to help masking fuild to come off easily is to put a little piece of masking tape on first - only fixed at one end - and paint the masking fluid over and around it. In effect, you create a "handle" to pull the mask off with.
One thing to bear in mind is that not all masking fluids are the same. Some are definitely latex-based - but others, like Super Mask, seem different. Do any of you use this? I can't get on with it at all...
All the best

Thanks to all. That tip you mentioned Merlin might work. I was wondering if putting down a coat of Future, or Klear, first might help?

Hi again Rodger
i haven't really noticed Future / Klear effect masking fluids - one way or the other.
Polishing with Model Wax "the treatment" might do the trick though...
