Hello,
I need some help identifying which unit this stug belonged to. I'm thinking the stug is in Berlin maybe. Are there any more pictures of stug's with this added armor?

Thanks,

Hogger, I would venture my classification as a nicely used STUG III G with Saukomph mantle. But it can also be a C/D outfitted with a 75mm and saukomph mantle as well. the pic obscures the back of the crew compartment. A G variant had a squared off roof while the C/D had one tha angled back in towards the front of the tank. I hope that helps a bit. DML did a kit of the C in this configuration, and T amiya would be the way to go for the G with an aftermarket mantle and barrel. I think eduard has one for the Tamiya kit. HTH STUG

It looks like a StuG III/ 75mm. I would guess it is an early run with the Saukopf, as it doesn't have the added cement armor on the front or zimmerit on the vertical surfaces.
The vehicle appears to either have a worn overspray of olive green/ red brown over dark yellow, or it might be worn winter white wash over the darker colors:-[ ]

Looks like a mid to late production Stug III ausf G w/75mm gun in a saukopf mounting.
Check out the bulge just ahead of the commanders cupola, this was additional armour to protect the cupola and typicalof late production G models.
Also the barrel support is the later type and the schurzen support rails look tubular.
The visor over the drivers vision slot is another pointer to a late model G, IMHO.
Iīm not a betting type, but Iīd have to suggest the loaders hatch opens side to side (rather than front and back) - canīt see the loaders mg mounting either, but in the absence of a frontal shield for that, my guess is that the Stug has a remote control mg mount but may have lost it at some stage during the fighting (or, if this is post conflict, it may have been removed for security reasons)...
As to unit, boy howdy, thatīs got to be educated guesswork.
Cornelius Ryanīs book īThe Battle for Berlinī has details of the various units that fought in the streets of Berlin - some extrapolation from that or an After The Battle magazine (I believe they did a book about the Battle for Berlin too, which would be worth looking for) or an Order of Battle might indicate which units were equipped with Stug III.
Failing that, the beast might be part of some scratch kampfgruppe made up of oddball survivors of diverse units.
In 1945 on the streets of Berlin, almost anything could have happened - which is not an excuse to do a diorama of five Maus manned by Volksturm and Werewolves and supported by a couple of Coelian Panthers or Kugelblitz PzIVs either BTW...
