Would the original release of the Meng AMX30 be suitable to use as the hull with kitbash of the Heller DCA AA Turret? Would the timeframes of the 2 be suitable?
Have them both in the stash and thought the newer hull would make a big difference on the finished product.
Thanks.
Edit: noticed my title spelling problem. Sorry, don't know how to change that.

If I were you, but I'm not so take this for what it's worth, I would sit back and wait a while in case Meng decides that a DCA version would be a good idea. Another possibility is that someone decides to produce an AMX-13 DCA and then you could use that turret.
That old Heller turret isn't the most exciting piece of plastic I have ever seen ...... those barrels in my DCA kit looked like cooked spaghetti

The answer to your question: The AMX-30 DCA was a prototype built in the late sixties. The AMX-30 B2 was announced in June 1979 (ten years after the DCA prototype) so you should use the older version, i.e. AMX-30B (don't know how much externally visible differences there are on the hull ...)

I've been wanting to do this, too... but I think Robin is right - just as you get started someone will come out with a full kit or turret. Also, without modern renditions of those distinctive Hispano-Suiza cannons, it;'s not going to look that great.

The guns are Oerlikon GDF 35mm guns, so simply replacing the barrels with aftermarket parts intended for say, the Tamiya Gepard or something with a marksman turret might work.

I've only seen the Hispano-Suiza guns mentioned - was there another prototype? Excuse my ignorance if they are the same gun!

Maybe I'm wrong, in which case I will confess my ignorance. In any case, whatever guns they are, I have no idea another kit will have better barrels than what's in the Heller kit.

You are. The 30mm hispanos in the DCA look nothing like the 35mm Oerlikons.

Funnily enough came across the old Heller kit in the darkest recesses of the stash in the loft and had been thinking the same thing.

Thanks for all the comments and thoughts. I got a few good laughs too!
Yea, I am a sucker for AA tanks. Think they look really cool with the multiple barrels and radar dishes, etc...
Edit: another thought, maybe for the good of all of us, I should start it and someone will release it. Problem solved!

Whatever the base you choose, you'll have to do some surgery to the front glacis and the engine deck.
More pics on my site if they can help.
