Hi guys,

I have in mind a simple diorama with a current US Army AFV on a platform railcar.
There are a lot of pictures online fro US Army freight transport, but there is no 1/35 modern platform, although many German WWII ones.
Based on what exist on the market, could you advise a kit that would make the trick.

Thanks!

I don't think there is any kit of that type of flatcar ..
SOme of the information you need can be found here:
http://www.liberatedmanuals.com/TM-55-2220-058-14.pdf
(sometimes the server is overloaded and/or the website has exceeded its bandwidth -> try again later)

If you go for H0-scale (1/87) you could get this one:

The H0 ones are definitely what I would need..at the 1/35th scale...
Thanks for the document though, really interesting if I feel like doing some scratch-building!

A Wehrmacht SSyms flatcar could be used as a current Bundesbahn flatcar if you want to build a US Army Europe setting.
Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System site contains a lot of pics if you use the right search parameters.

Francios,

There is a man who started a thread here asking for ideas to 3D-print. Maybe he would be interested?

I have contemplated doing the the same thing. in the States they us 85' flat cars with two axle trucks, for the M1s they use a heavier duty trucks. All military roll sock has DODX reporting markings, Google that and you get tons of images.

I stopped by a train modeling shop this afternoon. The closest scale to 1/35 they use is the G-scale or G-gauge, which is between 1/22 and 1/32 scale...moreover, those train models usually come built and expensive. So one has to be careful.

Nevertheless, I took some time to check online, and with the DODX info, I've found one for $205 at the 1/29th scale:

Here is the link to order: http://www.thegalline.com/index.html

But I'm coming to a point where I think that as long as I don't put an Abrams on a small flatcar, I'm not sure someone will make the difference unless they are train modelers...
I do think it's a great topic, as most of military transportation is done by railway.
