I built this a while ago and still really need to finish it.

The idea was to show a crash site out on the moors where a pilot lost his life, the remains of the Hurricanes Merlin engine lies corroding in a stream while a cross has been erected to remember the pilot who died there many years ago.

I hope you like it

How I did it....

The soil is plaster mixed with artists acrylic brown and loads of tea leaves added to give it texture, to this I pressed in / added the river bed with fine assorted gravel and larger rocks from a cinder type path, the grass is the normal modelling stuff and the water is Vallejo still water to make the stream, it starts in among the grass as a sodden boggy area then descends into the stream.
The bits I need to redo are the poppy rings and small crosses as they look terrible..but as only my second diorama, I'm happy

The engine is from a 1/24 Airfix Hurricane and has been cut away in bits to add the corrosion, and bits added to simulate some of the interior engine parts, the engine bearer has been chopped up and added, additionally bits of crushed thick metal foil (speed tape ) has been added to replicate parts of the wreckage.
The good thing is,the Hurri can be built minus the engine, so you get two models for the price of one

Very enigmatic story in such a small area. Nicely done. The groundwork is very convincing for sure.

When you say finish it-what do you mean? Adding a figure?
I think this is one diorama where you could not use a figure and let it speak for it's self. Personally I think you should add a tiny bit more relevant debris and call it done.

Excellent work...

Thanks, i originally intended to do a model of an old gent standing looking at the cross of his fallen comrade, but discounted it, I mean finished as in redoing the little crosses to make them look more realistic and reworking the poppies. There is quite a lot of wreckage in the water etc made up of aluminium foil, it just does not show well in photos.

Thanks for all the kind comments.

This was my inspiration BTW
