Interesting concept. I'm not sure about the functionality of the devices shown in the animations, but the concept is certainly there.

I suspect this is due to their assessment of surviveability on the battlefield, or perhaps budget or new tactics. Tie down defenders with these while manned units maneuver to the flank.
