It looks as if AFV Club is well on the way to releasing the M60A2 that was promised so long ago, or so it feels like.

Just noticed, they didn't remove the texture on the engine deck. Easy to fix, though

Looks nice. Seems to be the same one piece vinyl tracks as in the A1 kit, which I think AFVC did a good job on, live track and all. Looks good and snug.

Looks good! Cast texture is a little "sandy", but they caught all the little details like the safety flap on the laser range finder. And the mantlet cover looks nice - any idea what material it is?

Looks like the best of the bunch.
Supports to the headlight guards.
Hangers for AND a Tow cable.
Fender extensions to the rear tailight boxes.
spare track and hangers, Dragon didn't have this.
Good aircleaner boxes.
Yup, full of win.

I have to agree, looks like a winner. A lot of A2s used the T142 track. If your modeling a later tank you might want to get some after market tracks. I especially like the aluminum top loading air cleaners. I could use a set for an M48A5 conversion.

I can't wait to see a real comparison between this and the Dragon kit to see which one I should buy! Any thoughts?

Do you care about accuracy at all? Then you will not like the Dragon kit.

The photos show that M48 style road wheels. The forged aluminium wheels are on separate sprues in the A1. Here's hoping we get both. The different air cleaners should be present as the top loaders were on the sprue with the top front hull and the side loaders on the sprue with the rear deck.

Hate to say "I told you so", but I told you so! I KNEW the AFV CLUB -A2 would be better than all the rest- My judgements were based on AFV's M60A1 kit. AFV CLUB doesn't operate in "retrograde" like CERTAIN model companies do... This -A2 is DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT! Several of these will be joining my collection...

Looking through my recently acquired Tankograd M60A2/3 book which is by no means the be all end all on the A Deuce most in service pictures have T142 track and aluminum road wheels. The early tanks have side loading air cleans but most of the in service ones are top loading aluminum. The M60A1s I was on at the same time the A2s were in service had aluminum road wheels and T142 track. I have some pictures of A2s they I ran into in on REFORGER I will have to dig them out.
Easy fixes for the kit.

Hi Everyone
i can tell you all that this model is based on a actual vehicle which was measured and photographed in depth.so any discrepancies are not the manufactures fault.
i was involved in this vehicle and i know the MD main concern was to get the turret shape correct as well.

Ossie, was it the old Littlefield collection vehicle they measured? It had the early tracks IIRC, as well as the "Aces High" markings in the AFV Club build-up. (Academy gave part of this scheme, but crucially left out the name & playing cards.)

The real things were no doubt upgraded over time to T142 tracks among other things, so they'd need to put a bunch of extras in the box to cover all bases. I can sources new tracks and alli wheels if the base kit is as good as it looks, but first I need to justify a third A2 to go with the Adler/Esci and Academy ones in my collection!

Hi Ossie, glad to hear it. I know that AFV does their homework after viewing the M60A1. Steel road wheel cams into general use after most A2s retired. If that and new tracks are all that's needed I'm sold. AFV blows most Dragon and Academy stuff away.

Looks like the same tracks as in the A1 kit. AFV club makes a very nice set of T142 tracks for replacement. If this is anything like the A1 kit, it'll come with either set of road wheels, and either set of air cleaners-- I think AFV club has worked out the bugs of interchangeable sprues between kits. The only thing I notice on the photos of this kit is the same heavy casting pattern for the hull and commander's cupola, same as the A1 kit, but it looks like the turret is much cleaner. VR, Russ

Nicely done air cleaners. Looks like they got the CBSS bulge correct too. A lot of the red flags i saw on the test shot of this have been addressed. I look forward to building it. I would second that it should probably feature the aluminum finned wheels instead of the steelies, judging by most of the in-service pics i have.

When we drew our M60A2s NEW in Vilseck,in '76.all had:
Top loading aircleaners
ribbed aluminum wheels
Bore evacuators (non functioning) or no bore evacuator, or just the mounting bosses on the gun tube for them.
If you model the initial roll out, chevron tracks are fine. After about 1 year, we switched to the T142's. (Labor day,77) I really like the AFV club T142's.

Ossie + AFV Club = accurate kits!

I think I'll part out my Dragon kit to fix up the Esci and Tamiya kits I have. Turret can by used for a WOTIF build...

Tim, thanks for the reply. I'll take it as good advice and go for the AFV kit.

The AFV Club M60 kit contains both types of wheels so this kit will probably have them as well.
