Hi everyone,
I have this question in mind for a long time: why is it almost impossible to find a picture of an MRAP with the 3tons NATO camouflage? Or even the typical Swedish or Aussie camo schemes?
I assume it was a matter of time and money, but maybe some people can confirm or add another reason.
Moreover, I would love to see some examples if some people have pictures!
Thanks!

I guess the only MRAPs I've seen in NATO or plain green camo so far are M-ATV.
Check this FB group https://www.facebook.com/BuffaloMPCV/?fref=ts
Scroll down to FEB2016 you'll see US 3-tone M-ATV, green Croatian M-ATV and a couple more of other models.

What about an Italian Cougar 6x6 in Afghanistan ?
PS : You'll have to scratchbuilt the raised roof top and the specific Platt MR655 Shielded Ring Mount though...

Another question, why military vehicles are not always painted in sand color if they are used desert environment ?

Many times a vehicle is shipped to a desert environment from its home country or non-desert areas. They haven't been painted desert camo yet and if they are only going to be there a short time they might not get painted. During Desert Storm and OIF many vehicles were shipped from all over the world to the mid-east in NATO or other camo and then painted desert tan. You can find pictures where the desert tan is chipping off showing NATO camo underneath. They can also be partially painted, have different colored parts like desert tan TUSK kits on NATO painted Abrams or armor kits on wheeled vehicles. You do what you need to do to get a vehicle into battle.Another question, why military vehicles are not always painted in sand color if they are used desert environment ?

Quite a few color photos of US and Coalition Tanks, AFVs and Soft-skins exist painted in the 3-color NATO scheme, serving alongside "Desert Sand" vehicles- many units simply didn't have the time to repaint their vehicles in the Sand color...

For the same reason that most of the vehicles at bases here in the mountains, forests, and pastures of Pennsylvania are painted tan.

Not to mention CARC paint is a PIA to apply properly vs normal paint. I've heard stories of Russian tankers painting their vehicles every 6 months or so!

Two part epoxy type CARC was a PIA to apply. If the surface prep wasn't done right it just peeled off in a few weeks. That stuff reeked and if it got on your skin (NOT RECOMMENDED) it had to wear off. Sometimes field repairs were done with krylon but when we got back it was sand, grind, clean, CARC.Not to mention CARC paint is a PIA to apply properly vs normal paint. Regarding the swedish MRAP:s, RG-32M Galten (eng Boar) I haver never seen it painted in other colours than dark green or desert sand hence the lack of pictures of the vehicle in swedish splinter.

Thansk Mats.
That would be so nice though to see a RG32 with the typical swedish camo!

You're welcome.
Nice but I'm not so sure it will ever happen. The swedish splinter camo is a real PIA to paint even in 1:1 scale. Miles of masking tape...
