Unlikely, surely easier to go with a Tamiya or Dragon JS-2

From what I've seen Trumpy screwed up in many areas of their IS family. You'll have to work hard to make it look decent, it isn't worthwhile IMHO. Go with Tamiya!!!

Why would you? The Tamyia Js-2 kit is pretty much perfect. You seriously dont need anything else. Plus it's definitely cheaper than a brand new Trumpeter release will be.

1) They use larger diameter postwar road wheel hub caps with 10 bolts.
2) The mud scrapers are of postwar type as well.
3) Commander's cupola is round, not oblong as it should be...

Those are only the most evident inaccuracies, the list is far longer.

All this is in their IS-1 kit which is supposed to represent the very early examples. Knowing Trumpeter's reputation and approach to research and producing kits in general, do you expect them to change anything in their next release?

From the look of it I don't think it is a blueprint they used for production of actual vehicles at the factory. All commander cupolas were oval in shape, some more, some less, with vision slits of various length and shape. Here is a selection of images to show CCs from different manufacturers:

http://tigerscorner.ru/gallery/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73:-1-2-&catid=34:2010-12-02-12-49-34&Itemid=53

And here is a clearer plan view:

And the drawing of turret roof section:

Generally, it is believed that average CC was 90x98 cm (25.5x28 mm in scale).

An image of standard and postwar road wheel for your consideration:

Cheers, Paul.

By the way, the mud scrapers in their IS-1 kit are OK, but the return rollers of this particular type should have no lightening holes in them, whereas they have...and driver's movable visor should be closer to front upper plate top, not its bottom.
