I put mine in a closed plastic container, put them on a shelf until I get tired of moving them around and then I throw them out.

That's a shame Jerry. I have mine for a while, then try to donate to museums or the VFW, or put them on e-bay for $1.99 plus ship( this is going to happen this fall.)
Oh well.

Great topic and I guess with modelling it's the same as with collecting. The best item in a (my) collection always was the item I didn't have. Once I had found it, it went on the shelf and the search for a new item started. I guess the best model you have is the one you still have to build ( or the one you are working on). Once it's finished the fun is over. Then all that remains is posting it on a forum hoping to get "likes" etc. So, the fun is in the search and in the build. It kinda keeps you busy in a harmless way. And houw does it end? In my case all collections are sold ( my large German Militaria Collection (SA-items), my Thunderbirds collection, my Airfix Bluebox collection and the same happens to my models. In the end I sell them. So what, just like collecting it gives me a lot of fun and that's what it's all about. The only difference is that my collections turned out to be very good investments. My models don't

I now have five very full display cases, my workbench is overflowing and the latest (large) models are currently displayed on top of my dresser. Do not know what I will do with the next model!

Capt'n she can't take much more!

I built many models as a child (25 years ago)... Kept them for a while, blew some of them up with firecrackers - lol. Then trashed the rest. As a adult, I purchased thousand of dollars worth of HO scale model railroad items in hopes to build a huge model train layout. Ten years worth of purchases then I realized that I would never have the time or space required to build such a monster layout that would have required an entire two car garage or bigger - lol. So I decided to make two 80" W x 16" D diorama spaces. One as most of you know for my HO scale 1980's NYC ghetto scene
and the other for my Iraq 2007 scene. I think that these two will keep me busy for many many years. The Iraq dio will be donated to my Army Reserve Unit and the HO scale train dio will be a keeper. As for the thousand and thousands dollars of unstarted train kits and structures in inventory, well, that will end up on eBay some day when I have the time to post all those kits. All if not most of those items are out of stock and no longer produced. I am sure there are plenty of modelers out there willing to pay the price for a lot of those items. Problem is, I have deep feelings about letting them go but I realize that they do me no good keeping them in their storage containers for another 10 years so the time will come to say good by soon.

Well, some of my stuff ended up in the local hobby shop--I have some aircraft on display there.

Otherwise, I have some shelving at home for all my projects (already running out of space).

So I rotate things on display and store them in tupperware containers as many already seem to do.

Tried to donate some stuff to various museums, but they didn't seem interested. They had "contractors" to do their projects. I said mine would be free but it didn't seem to matter.

Occasionally I'll break one up and salvage it, but that's rare.

Cheers,

Tim W.

Mine get put in display cases (I make them) and displayed on my computer desk and bench. The up side of display cases is they stack with out damage to the modles. I do have a row of dioramas on top of a book case in the master.. that row has reached the end as there is no more book case.

Like most of us keeping every kit is not an option.. so I will try to keep the ones that I feel are special and give/evilbay the rest.

I have told my children to ebay them when I am gone but odds are they will end up in a landfill for a few thousand year... maybe some one will dig one of em up in the future and they can argue about the correct hue for the German camo, the lack of or to much chipping and why there are three bolts when the real tank had four.
