Hello,

My first post here I quite recently started doing scale armor models and are about to start on a Tamiya m1046. I'm a bit curious about it's interior. Mainly what gadgets are available. Is it the same as in other Humvee models?

What about '90 versions that operated on Balkan? What electronics where featured at that time?

I do have this kit which I'm considering to use.

Any thoughts?

I think for a Balkans vehicle the Tamiya kit could be used OOTB. Maybe you could replace the tires with resin.
Brent Sauer´s site is an excellent source for anything HMMWV related.

Randis, the M1046 was a version of the earlier TOW carrier with a winch and added armor on the doors, the inner sidewalls of the cabin, the bed and tailgate. Adding the armor changed the vehicle's designation to M1045 without the winch and M1046 with the winch. Tamiya's model portrays these vehicles with the added armor. You can tell they have the added armor due to the lack of the embossed X on the doors. The X is still visible on the insides of the doors. Look closely at photos of the truck you want to model. If the X is present on the doors, you can use the doors from Tamiya's M1025. You also need to look closely at the Tow launcher itself. If the launcher looks like the one in the M1046 kit, then you are good to go. Piotr Samofalov sells parts to make the more modern TOW ITAS from his Shapeways store. They are beautifully done. Tamiya has the layout correct for the earlier TOW system. If you look at tech manual drawings there are a ton of things you can add or add more detail to. The layout changes slightly for the newer TOW system though. References for the layout are not hard to find. Edward has a photo etch set for the M1046 which is out of production but may be available on EBay. Hope I have been of help.

Regards,

Eric

There's also one from Lion Roar :

Thank you for all your replies. These are real gold mines.

So... The interior kit I have is out of the question then.

Eduard discontinues everything I want . I had a look at Lion Roar, but it was hard to find any place to buy that as well. It looked nice.

Since this is one of my first armor build maybe I should go with HermannB's suggestion and stick to what comes with the Tamiya box? I can add some cables, straps and other small details to spice it up a bit. Anyone know where to find suitable seat belts?

I'm pretty sure there will be more Humvee models in the future.

I think this Legend Productions interior is a too late type for a M1046. It is more designed for a M1114.

Sometimes, ordinary household and food stuff can be really useful. Instead of leadfoil, I use foiltubes that contain mustard or similar. Also the metal wraping on wine or champagne bottles could be used. And don`t forget ordinary paper! Sometime I think we all get lured by the sometimes expensive offerings of the AM industry instead of using our brain and handicraft. Have considered making seatbelts out of that yellow masking tape sold by Tamiya or RoG?

Randis, 90% of Edward's M1025 set for Tamiya's kit will be the same as that for the M1046. Another thing to consider here is what years you are considering. The vehicles used there probably only have lap belts which are much easier to model than shoulder belts. Out of the box is a great option for someone just starting out. Aftermarket photo etch is a daunting task even for people who have been doing this for years. A good route to go after your M1046 would be one of Tamiya's newer tank kits. Many of them come with small photo etch frets that let you get your feet wet.

It's the buckle fasteners that worries me the most. Possibly i can do small things in putty that look decent enough if not exposed to much.
