As promised in my review, here is a build log for the Dragon 8.8cm Pz.IV. For those who have not seen the review, you can find it here
Well to start off, I now remember how good the Dragon Pz.IV kits are, as it has been a while since I have built one. Working on the lower chassis, and everything goes together very well. There were no fit issues, and so far no errors in the instructions. As mentioned in the review, all the parts are from the existing Dragon kits.
If you have not built a Dragon Pz.IV prior, those tabs on the top of the lower hull need to be removed.
One thing not mentioned in the instructions, is to shave down the center inner support so the deck for the 8.8cm will fit.
As per the instructions, remember to fill the holes on the rear upper deck.
A quick dry fit shows the upper hull should go together quite well.
Up next, finish the upper deck, then on to the '88'.

Back to it, and complete the Pz.IV chassis.
For the intakes, prior to installing over the fenders, I added some primer as it can be difficult getting paint in that area after assembly.
The rest of the chassis assembly goes well, as there is not alot of work.
As mentioned in the review, there will be a lot of parts for the spares box. The image shows just the chassis sprues, minus the wheels. That is a lot of extra parts.
Onto the gun assembly, there will need to be some filling as most of the cylinder parts are in two halves. This is especially true for the upper cylinder, as the fit over the solid piece is tight, and it split the two halves.
With the parts sanded, assembly can really begin, and there is nice looking details as part of the assembly to build.
Getting closer to completing the gun, and a test fit shows the 8.8cm still looks big when mounted on the Pz.IV chassis.
Next up, complete the details on the gun, then off to the primer shop.

Quick update, the kit is now built and ready for the primer shop. I must say, it went together very well, both the chassis and gun.

The painting process has begun, and I wanted to have the look of something "pieced" together in the desperate defence of Berlin.
I started with a coat of Vallejo Red Brown Primer, then painted the gun deck Ammo by Mig Primer Base.
The chassis was then painted with Ammo by Mig Late Dunkelgelb, with Rotbraun and Resedagrun. While the gun was painted with Vallejo Dark Yellow.
I thought the gun color stood out too much, so I over sprayed with Vallejo Dark Yellow lightened with Radome Tan. I also started adding some weathering.
Next up, add the wheels and Model Kasten track (I am not a big fan of the DS track included in the kit).

I will be marking this one done, added some ammunition boxes from Griffin, Tamiya rounds, and few other bits. While mostly repeats of previous Dragon kits, they come together to form a nice looking model.

Kevin,
Looks fantastic. The detail realized by your painting and weathering techniques is just superb! I really like that you didn't paint the gun and vehicle in the same shades of dunkelgelb. What a stand-out!

Hi Kevin, really nice job on this one. I love the weathering you have done. I have the 1st release of this one with magic tracks, might just have to give it a go. Hope mine turns out half as nice as yours.Best regards.....Dale
