I applied some decals today and ran into an issue after the microsol was applied. It wrinkled up which i am aware should happen, but as the decal settled and dried they are couple wrinkles in the decal still. What can I do to resolve this?

Try a little more microsol. Give them a light coat and wait to see if it helps. If it does repeat until the decal is smooth.

In every instance I have ran into this, more microsol in light applications typically solves the issue. Some decals are more stubborn than others.

More Micro-Sol. And contrary to popular belief, you *can* apply pressure to the decal when you put the Micro-Sol on it. Especially in your case, where it's basically where you want it, soften it up with the Sol, and blot it down with your finger (make sure your finger is wet, or use a piece of soft cloth).

Another coat of sol definitely reduced the wrinkles, so I will keep applying more. Is there a limit to how much you can apply?

Hello,

on some thick Hardcore Tamiya-Decals I have applied as much as 5 to 6 coats over the course of two days, so too much coats should not be the issue, I guess...

Still when trying some new techniques regarding painting or finishing products I rather try them on scrap plastic before I risk ruining an almost finished model.

Best Regards

Dennis

Cheers thanks for the help guys! They are the Tasca decals which I have read are good so I'm not sure why they wrinkled but at least I think it can be fixed

Keep at it until they succumb. There is no "limit" on anything in modeling that I've ever heard of. I've been known to apply *very* small amounts of liquid model cement (or MEK) with a fine brush to particularly stubborn decals like this. It will generally melt the clear carrier and/or the ink, so be VERY careful with it, but it does work.

I eventually poked some small holes in the air bubbles and wrinkles, then added microsol, then applied pressure with a q-tip damp with microsol. The decals are now looking good. How long should I wait after applying microsol before hitting them with a top coat of future

I'd give them at least 24 hours just to be sure.

Is Liquid Decal Film the same as a setting solution or solvent? No. It's basically clear paint. It's the same stuff that is printed on decal paper before the opaque colors are printed. It's used to salvage old or poorly printed decals that may be cracking on the backing paper. You paint it over the decal image and it creates a new flexible clear layer holding the colors together. Then you can apply the decal normally. If you spray the film over the entire decal sheet, you'll need to cut the individual decal subjects apart with an X-acto knife or scissor.

It's not the same stuff that decals are printed on. That's a very specialized product. The liquid decal film is really just a tough clear paint designed to salvage old decals that are at risk of shattering.

I guess I've been using it so long, I assume everyone knows what MicroSet and MicroSol are and how they're to be used. I've been using them for upwards of 45 years! Here are links to the descriptions from Microscale itself.
