Hello all. My first post on the forum. I am another of the older generation getting back into armour modelling after far too many years away.

I spotted this https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/155044&page=1 awesome Humvee walkaround. Fantastic detail. So much so that I have decided to build as near a replica as I can. The non-standard radios and the amount of weaponry in the turret should make for something a bit different.

The radios will be a challenge. Its fitted with 2 Thales AN/PRC-148 radio sets with a AN/VRC-111 vehicle adapter.

http://www.cybermodeler.net/armor/humvee/images/m1151_delisle_30.jpg

I can't find any after market suppliers so it will have to be a scratch build for the adapter and radios. I can get the SINCGARS tray, and the BFT system unit (on the left of the radios) from one of the BFT/SINCGARS after market kits (D Vision probably). And I could cannibalise the SINCGARS radio as a basis for the radios/adapter.

What I haven't been able to identify is the black box sitting underneath the wooden board. I think it may be some sort of power supply unit strapped into the tray on top of the aircon unit

Does anyone know what it is?

Here's a shot of it from the side. I can't really make out what's written on the box.

Yes I think it may be a power unit of some sort. I can't decide if the small silver box is separate or a part of the black unit

But there is also this pic of a Thales setup.

I'm wondering if the unit below the VRC 111 is the same thing?

I am going to use the Academy M1151 kit. It has the O-GPK turret with the windows which this vehicle doesn't have. So also getting the Legend GPK kit which includes the correct turret ring and hatch.

The turret hatch in Academy's kit (and in Legend set too!) is not correct for M1151, but for M1114, unfortunatelly. Also the turret ring is differet in some details. Compare the kit's elements with these photos, made by Brent Sauer (owner of the http://www.hmmwvinscale.com/ website):

I was looking at the instructions which list part 1 for M1114 and part 2 for M1151. (There are 2 turret rings in the kit) Which probably means 1 for Tamiya and 2 for Academy. I didn't look at it in detail. Now that I have its obviously wrong. The turret ring has the circular piece on top of the turret ring and the corresponding curved indentation into the hatch.

Does anyone make a correct M1151 turret or is it yet more scratch building?

I found your post which details the errors http://humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1144

Very useful. I think I will be buying a few more after market kits. Thats if they are still available of course. I'm 3 years late to the M1151 builds

Academy makes the M1151. I don't believe that kit comes with an intercom system, part of which you see as the green box with 4 knobs on the top-center of the picture 6 posts above. this is a FFCS/L from the VIC-3 LV2 system.
On the far right here, you'll see a box with one knob; that's the MCS/L.

Great stuff. There is an FFCS for the front as well

The BFT/SINGARS installation is missing including all the shelves and supports. Just the monitor and GPS unit in front and what I believe is the fire suppresion switch below the FFCS.

A quick search found this explaining the acronyms

Both turret rings from Legend's set are incorrect for M1151. And You won't find the good one in any available kit or AM set on the market.

Here You'll find some photos of my correction of the turret hatch:
http://www.humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=529&start=40#p6960
I didn't correct the turret ring - my knowledge of Humvee in that time was very far smaller than today...

If You have any problems with translating this article:
http://humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1144
please let me know, I'll try to help

AM sets:
- Voyager Model (PE35422) Modern USMC Humvee M1151 w/IED
http://www.humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=596
There are PE turret ring and hatch included, still incorrect. But there are plenty of very goog parts.
- Def Model (DM35009) M1151 suspension + MT/R tire set
http://humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1038
Lowers the suspension and replaces poor wheels. But of course You need different wheels for "Your" variant.
- DEF Model (DM35008) US Humvee Stowage + MT tire set
http://www.humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=583
Here are correct MT wheels and also many great stowage items (for example stretchers).
- Legend Productions (LF1227) M1151 Detailing Set
http://www.humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=540
Some very useful items (correct tool tray, armor for wheel bays and airco covers for rear wheel bays, and some more).

Of course the electronics - there is a list of - I guess - all AM sets available:
http://humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1336
You have to search thru it. Remember, that in all three Bronco's M1114s kits there are some items, which could be useful for You - intercom boxes and DAGR.

And the weapons. The M2 from Academy's kit is qiute good, but any valorisation set (f.e. RB Models) is always a good idea. And M240 - Live Resin makes some very very good ones, but all of them demands small corrections to depict the exact one on "Your" M1151.

One more thing. All GPK sets available (Legend, Voyager, ET Model, Bronco's M1114) has different dimensions (but i think Voyager and ET Models are the same between each other). For example there is not possible to attatch Bronco's GPK (too small) to Academy's M1151 turret ring (too big). Take a look here:
http://humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1215
Again - if there are problems with translation, let me know.

The intercom boxes in the Bronco kit are incorrect, at least for this specific HMMWV. The Bronco kit has AN/VIC-1 boxes which were only used upto the early 2000's when they were superseded by the AN/VIC-3. On the M1114 kits they are appropriate to a point but not on this M1151 (and neither on vehicles from 2008 onwards I believe). I've made a set of the LV2 boxes.

Many thanks to everyone for your responses. What an amazing forum. There is a wealth of information to digest.
Kubisz, you really have done some extensive research. Very much appreciated.
MikeyBugs, just been looking at your Shapeways offerings. The LV-2 kit looks really good. Definitely something I will have to get.
I had been planning on scratch building then resin casting the Thales radio kit but 3D printing would be an interesting way to go.

Another thing forgotten Belly armor:
Eduard (36211) M1151 EAC underbody protection FRAG2
http://humvee-models.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1391
Completelly omitted in Academy's kit Very easy to scratchbuilt.

Yes I spotted the under body armour in your list of errors/omissions for the Academy kit. The Eduard kit would complement the Legend M1151 upgrade and finish the underside very nicely.

The front grill and head lamp positioning was the other thing I noticed in your post. Unfortunately it looks as if the after market bonnets/grills are not available anymore except for a grill from samofptr on shapeways.
