Darren Baker takes a look at the second Horsa offering from Bronco Models in 1/35th scale. If you like them big this one scores highly and will look great with some of the British Paratrooper offerings that have been offered by Bronco Models Previously.

Did they ever release German DFS 230 assault glider?

So, do you think Bronco will do a WACO glider?

To my knowledge the German glider has not been released and I have heard no more about it.

The Waco is an interesting aircraft to bring up, but I never mentioned it because the Horsa offerings started as a MiniArt works in action and I have never heard a Waco mentioned in the same breath.

Thanks to 1:35 scale, we're in the classic conundrum of are they aiming at aircraft or armour modellers?...

Hopefully, it'll be a big enough success to warrant being down-scaled to 1:48 (let's face it - they'll never up-size to 1:32...) and keep both camps happy. It'll make for a more manageable diorama too.

I'd buy one in 1:48. In 1:35... nahh, sorry.

yo Merlin, this glider is intended to go along with Bronco's 1/35 British Jeeps & para's ..they would probably never do a 1/48. Maybe another company would?

Masterbox originally started this in 1/35, the first set of CAD renders were a MK1-MK11 ahem 'blend' of features, possiblly because they were using refs fom a relic or museum? Anyway, they then published corrected MK11 Visualations.

At the same time Masterbox published CAD renders of a WACO glider a C47 in UK/UK versions & if memory serves a Tante JU & DFS 230, Then it all went quiet....

So ONLY BELIEVE, & mabee BRONCO will deliver

With the gigantic array of scale offerings in 1/35 scale that this glider would compliment,why on earth would this company decide to also do one in 1/32? In that bigger scale there are about what...10 or twelve things or figures available? Man o man.

Sadly the shape of the nose on Bronco's Mk II Horsa (which is different from the Mk I) is not sufficiently pointed and the kit lacks the substantial spine that goes behind the centre of windscreen. The kit also lacks the twin cockpit doors. The spine and the doors are an easy fix, the shape of the nose itself is less so.

Details of all these points as well as numerous photos of the existing Mk II airframes displayed in the Museum of Army Flying - and the Mk II noses at Duxford and London Colney - with particular reference to the arrangements of hinges, locks, push-pull linkages etc around the folding nose joint were supplied. Details of the stencilling on the doors were also provided so the information was available during development

I would like to see the gliders in 1/32, too, yet I understand that, as "supporting cast" to figures and tanks, there really isn't a market for them, unless one incorporates them with 1/32 military models from Monogram, Airfix, etc.. Now 1/48 - cry 'market' and release the birddogs of war!
