Never went past a few drawings with virtually no info on it other than 80mm of sloped armor in front and plans for a 7.5cm KwK L/70 to be mounted on it. Most conversion kits just use a Pz IV chassis as a base. The 1466 was the plans for the sloped armor and the 31941 was plans for a new turret.

It was dumped in favor of the Panther.

ok thx. I seen a conversion kit but I don't think they are in business anymore. The tank looks neat & I would like to attempt a scratch. I guess I'll have to go by eyeball. I'll be using an Italeri PZ IV F2 kit as my base. Nice cheap kit.I have several 75mm gun barrels & muzzle brakes.
I seen another version where they use 4 panther wheels plus the Panther sprocket.

**not my pic or model just using as reference**

David, have you checked Kraut Kits ? I got their 1/35 sloped Pz IV hull just a couple of months back. They have it in 1/48 as well. IIRC they also have the Pz IV simplified turret. Tat

ok, here's where I am at so far. Tons of bondo on it , ready to sand & paint.
I'm just going to do the chassis for now, do the new turret later on. The turret on there is for my Dragon PZ IV H. The chassis is from my Italeri PZ IV F2 with Dragon Magic tracks.
I used Evergreen plastic styrene sheets to measure, cut & sand the panels.I doubled up the styrene to get the thickness. I used parts from spares box for the MG etc...

This is the turret that I have to reproduce. The gun used is an L70 Panther 75mm but I'm not 100% sure.
Like the article says, this was dropped for the Jagdpanzer IV L/70
I did some measuring & that drawing is in 1/35 scale when printed out.The round tube coming out of the flat turret mantle is the same size as a Tiger I gun tube. I have an extra Tiger tube & Panther 75mm gun & it matches exactly to the drawing but the muzzle brake on the drawing is bigger then my gun muzzle..so it maybe a Tiger I 88mm muzzle on the drawing . This is how I will complete the turret.
With the extra width of the chassis I am assuming that ammo will be stored in the lower & not in the turret. I doubt there would be any room for ready rounds but I am not 100% sure.

More pix of my progress. The turret. So I am using Tiger 1 hatches & a PZ IV side hatch that is incorrect probably but it's ok.
I am using a L70 75 mm Panther barrel. I doubled up on the Evergreen plastic. I made the turret using ribs..then bending the plastic to fit the shape instead of cutting separate angles which would be a lady to lineup...if I had more plastic I wouldn't care, but I have limited resources at this stage.

I see the actual mantle is going to be a bugger to complete...so, off to the hobby store for more supplies. Need to make rivets etc...wish me luck. )

This is what it looks like with black primer on it & the bottom of the turret. I am just going to glue the plastic to the original turret ring of the kit. Simple.

There's another tank I want scratch, its a PZ IV chassis using Panther wheels..maybe an 88mm? Anyone know of this?

Nice build you have there. For the mantle, the closest I've seen was what Trumpeter has in its VK 3001. And if it's not too late maybe you can still sharpen the angles of the hull (?). Looking forward to see more.

Haven't come across a Pz IV with Panther wheels -- it seems mechanically improbable. Maybe it's the Panther with Pz IV turret?

Very cool! I have a few paper panzers on my wish list. Scratch building seems like it could be a lot of fun.

ok, here's an update.
So this first version had a 88mm gun...which I changed.

So I tried finding a nice fitting 75mm . I didn't want to use the standard Stuk 40 or kwk 40. I did want to try a L70 panther barrel. It did look nice but I had a problem finding a good mantle.
So , in the end I used a QF 17 pounder barrel from the Bronco kit..I was going to use the round muzzle flash but decided on using the L70 Panther Muzzle.
If I did this again I would have removed the round part of the mantle & just moved the barrel back snug against the square part of the mantle...it would have looked more realistic or "probable".
Since it is a long barrel I added the Panther cleaning Rods to the back. Added a Panther Commanders cupola & MG 42. Also added a Panther Gun lock.
So here's the final few pics. This is not weathered yet.
This is the 17 pounder barrel

This is after I added the turret protection shields.I also added 4 steel wheels at the front of the suspension since the gun is heavy.

First coat of Tamiya buff...thinned very thin..sprayed over black enamel primer.

This is after 2 more tones added.

Tools painted getting ready to weather everything.

ok, another update. Put the other turret on hold till I get another barrel. In the mean time I put the barrel snug against the mantle. Can you see the difference? I also repainted it, going to leave it a single color.Barrel is a British 17 pounder from a A34 Comet.
