When they were first deployed they used passive sights the thermals were a later upgrade. So early model A3s would need a search light. Hopefully the thermal gunners sight is included.

I wouldn't count on it. AFV Club most likely plan to release M60A3 TTS separately later.

Damn the differences are minor.just the shape of the gunners sight, welded over search light plug and then some different cammo. Is it really worth a second kit?

They could also include later style simplified thermal sleeve for the gun, although of course not all TTS had it.

I forgot about that. It was the same one used on M1s. We even had some gun tubes with the MLRS notch on them. It was a lot easier to use. I don't think any one makes that barrel. I modified a few for some A3s I have built. Buy it or wait that's the question. I may wait since I want to build one of my tanks. Thanks for the reminder Pawel.

Great news for modern builders. The M60A3 was so widely used that it can be made into a bunch of options.
In a business sense it is totally worth it. I am sure they will sell a bunch of the M60A3 kits and a bunch of the M60A3 TTS kits if they do make one. It will take only one smallish sprue of new parts as well, so no big outlaying of cash for another version. A win-win for AFV Club and modelers.
Individual kits of similar versions make more money for the company than combo kits that build different versions. Take a look at Dragon's M48 series and you will see how many different kits can be sold from similar versions being released separately.

Interestingly, almost all of the foreign M60A3s you see still have the commander's coupola.

Is this one good for an Egyptian vehicle like the ones in this pic?
Hisham
Hisham,
The AFV Club kit will work out of the box for those Egyptian M60A3s in your first picture. It looks as the Egyptian Army has a mix of M60A3 tanks with the thermal as well as passive gunner sights. The tank in the second picture is definitely a M60A3 TTS.

One of the Egyptian tanks clearly has the searchlight so they probably aren't TTS. At one point the thermal sights weren't exported and were even removed from exported tanks taken from US surplus.
And unlike the M48, there really wasn't anything wrong with the cupola on an M60.

A lot of people really hated that M-85 machinegun.

I never had issues with the M85. Putting it in the cupola was a real pain though.

Agree, but still not too far-fetched- AFV CLUB did their M5A1 (Early) and (Late) Stuart kits, even though the differences between the two variants are relatively minor. They COULD have just included the few parts for each variant in the same kit, but didn't- MORE MONEY to be made with TWO separate kits, instead...
