Having got my first Armour kits and as the Tamiya Pkfw Ausf ll comes with figures I might as well take the plunge and try a dio. I predict it'll be a long term project.
A tank and seperate figures stuck on a shelf looks kind of in limbo.
As I'm in a desert region not disimilar to North Africa, references for landscape, flora and fauna are right outside my window, so the virginal dio will be a desert scene...hopefully.
I ask if anyone has made date-palm trees before from scratch or are they "buy extra items"?
And if so, where from?
Many thanks for listening to an 'ole airman going soft in the head.
Cheers
:-)

To answer your palmtree question here is an article made by Eric Sikkema about making your own palmtrees. Nice little feature wich delivers quite nice trees.

Mr FAUST,
you are a gentleman. Thanks for the info. The palms out here are a little different but Eric's method is very adaptable. I'm sure it'll work fine....the trick now is where to find suitable silk leaves in Riyadh.
Thanks again
Cheers

hi Peter,
You will have better results with any scratch built palm trees than the ones in market . Robert (Mr.FAUST) :-) showed the best way for making palm trees. Erics method is really very good and easy. I made palm trees in a similar way before and the result was satisfying.
This is my Afrikakorps dio built years ago .I posted it thinking it can give an opinion to you about how self built palm trees look.
it is a good chance you can catch a similar desert scene when you look out of the window. To give you more dio changes ; a tent, water well ,water trailer looks good in africa dioramas.
There are good ww2 africa photos in this link

Well i ve tried both methods before. The first one works for sure (one exampla is the palm in my LRDG Dio in Gallery. the second method indicated by Scott is more adaptable for making many kinds of plants , which is very useful especially for guys that like Nam, or Deserts. So experiment your self. Also take care in the wetting of toilet paper (if u use it ) cause you want it wet and movable not disolved. !! Hope to see soon your results

Major Goose...I hope you have a lot of patience...but I will post as I go..but don't wait up
