They may not have had tanks at the time of the Civil War, but they definitely had cars. Because John Wilkes Booth's getaway car has been fished out of the Potomac; it's on display at the Smithsonian, or didn't you know?
Notice the air recognition emblem painted on the roof. That was to make sure he wouldn't be strafed by Confederate aircraft! [/URL]

By the way, the official designation for this vehicle is the M-01 Beauregard.

Hi folks,
Well I guess I'll get things started. Here's my start-up photos. I'll be doing the Academy M3A1 Stuart as the "Pay Off" on Bougainville. I have the TWS set with the wading stacks and canvas covered gun turret. I intend to use the turret but don't know yet about the stacks. I'm going to attempt to correct the back plate and remove the appropriate rivets for an M3A1. Other than that, pretty much OOB.

Here are two historical photos I've found of the tank:

As you can see it was fitted with the external fuel tanks. I'll need to do some work on the kit pieces to make them look more like the real deal.

Ultimately I hope to put the tank in a dio similar to this photo also taken on Bougainville.

I'm a slow builder with a lot of family commitments right now but hopefully I can at least complete the tank for the campaign. I'm open to comments and suggestions as this will be the first tank I've really worked on in 25 years.

Good luck everybody.

Hello John,
You'll enjoy the Stuart, I'm sure. I built one of these "m3a1-ish" Academy kits and it was fun. You can have a look at it here: http://www.planetarmor.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5860
I'll follow your build!
Cheers,
Zsolt

Hi Zsolt,
I just took a look at your thread. Excellent work my friend. An inspiration to me. I like how you did that back plate. Thanks for the link.

Ready to start the Scott, still have some odds and ends for it on the way, but it will be mostly OOB...This one will be battling the Germans and the bocage in Normandy...

Hi Clayton,
Looking forward to watching your M8 build. I notice you included a copy of the Chattanooga News-Free Press. Having worked for TVA for 30 years I came to town often. Bummer the hobby shop on Ringold Road closed last year. The only other option I'm aware of is a Hobbytown over by the Hamilton Place mall. Are there any other shops within reasonable driving distance? Its about a 3 hour drive for me to C town from where I live in Florence, AL.
Thanks
John

I'm about 1 hour south and east of Chat...we get the paper here, thank goodness...but the only good hobby shop I know is just north of me in Blue Ridge, Free Time Hobbies...he does 90% of his business online...you can check his website out, but that would be a hellofa drive! But the IPMS-Chattanooga Modelcon is Jan 6-7, 2017, I'm going for sure...

I've done business with Freetime before. Always great service and selection. I haven't been to the store since they moved but I'm still on their emailing list.

The new store is free-standing and a lot bigger, and every time I tell my wife I'm going to Blue Ridge she cringes...lol

Question for the group (I know I'm the campaign leader, but I don't like to make "decisions" and upset the members): Would you all consider an Israeli M51 a "Sherman" for purposes of this campaign? Thinking of digging this one out

 photo 2013-12-29_16-59-15_6_zpscuzn3gcn.jpg

I've made a slight start on it, basic lower hull put together but no details, suspension, upper hull, or turret so I'm sure it's less than 25% started; I just want to be sure you all agree it's still a Sherman for purposes of this campaign.

Thanks!

Michael

It's a Sherman, no doubt...;-)
