Jacques Duquette builds the Trumpeter offering of the Type-62 in 1/35th scale. A Chinese light tank with a pedigree that traces its pedigree back to the T-54A, the Type-62 has been used in Vietnam, African wars, and by North Korea among others. In 1/35th scale plastic for the first time, this kit has some issues, but comes out OK in the end.

Thanks for the encouragement Mike. Looks like there were a couple of transcription errors when transferring the writing from Word over to the Armorama form. Forgive my sloppiness.

I have also recently found out, again from Gary Owsley, that part C45 on the turret top is simply a container to hold antenna rods on command tanks.

Regards,
Hi, Jacques! THANKS for the review! Do you think any of the A/M people will offer "Corrections/Updates" for it, or will some other enterprising manufacturer come out with a "better" kit?

I am away from "the model" right now, but when I get home tomorrow, I will look into the box mountings. I do not recall any issues, and I did not write any notes in the instructions, so I will see what is up.
And I stand by my 70% recommendation. Aside from the tracks, it is a nice little kit. I will put is next to a T-55 and you can see how it is like a "little brother". It is cute.
But that US$70 price tag is a serious bummer. It would be a MUCH better kit at US$30.

As for another company kitting it? I doubt it, unless the Chinese home market demands a better kitting.

Sounds like TRUMPETER wants to "catch up" to DRAGON!

Saul caught a good point. I do not have notes on it because I thought it was a minor fix that, quite frankly, I forgot about. Ooops.
Anyhow, here is what my kit looks like:

I basically trimmed part C43. I trimmed the pegs on the "front" side and I cut off the rear straps, trimmed them back, then glued them back on. My guess is Trumpeter was going to put holes in the fender for the front supports, but did not get around to it. It is a simple fix.
and compared to the Tamiya T-55 I am converting to a T-55M5 with a SP Designs conversion kit (in progress)
Hope this helps.

I'm working on replacing my mantlet, ordered a Bronco YW-531 for a few road wheels (as per reference photo of the subject I am interested in), and will use the teeth from the Bronco kit tracks as they are properly scooped out.

Thanks for that info - I had no idea. Another great post on your part. Here's one of my own:
This is a model made of plastic.
There - beat ya to it! :-)
