That particular kit is 1970's era. Very simplistic. Tamiya retooled it in the1990's but this old one is a dog. It'll look like a 251 (more or less) when done but there's better available. Scalemates is your friend for figuring out the age/linage of kits.

Yes,this kit is old from the 1970's.But I don't think this one had any upgrades in the 90's though. It is very simple that would be great for a beginner yet the Dragon or AFV Club kit is far much better.

If your local store, as the link shows, is Hobbycraft then you'll be paying through the nose for kits. They charge some of the highest prices I've seen. The only way worth buying from them is when they have a big sale, blue cross sale etc. otherwise you are paying over the odds.

That kit is cheap, but there is a reason for that, as explained already, it's very old, same as the Tamiya Panther you'll see going cheap, an old and inaccurate kit, great for experience of building, test model to try out various paint methods, weathering etc but that's about it.

I built this one a few years back out of nostalgia (I'm a glutton for punishment!) and the biggest flaw was the tracks that were far too tight to go around the wheels. I had to use a set of AFV Club indy-links, so factor that additional cost into the equation if you jump on this "bargain".

(I also added a canvas tilt to hide the crude interior, as I wasn't up for a huge scratch-building session...)
