Hello,
I'm actually starting a new build.
This is a Zimmerit Dragon so I won't have to make it on my own. This is Porsche turret version.
In-box:
http://www.mojehobby.pl/products/Sd.Kfz.182-Kingtiger-Porsche-Turret-w-Zimmerit.html
I will make the art.-box Tiger from Mailly le Camp nr. 332 from 3. s. Pz. Abt. 502. The first issue is that Dragon show completely sci-fi painting scheme.
All colours are separated with dunkelgelb stripes.
As You can see below, this is original photo of the Tiger:
The painting sheme is as below:
As far as I know, the ventilation chimney was added up to april 1944. My version is from may 1944 so it is not an initial model and the chimney won't be necessary.
So, please comment as You wish and keep fingers crossed for my build.

How are you going to paint the right hand side without making it "completely sci-fi"?

Its always better to have 3 sides correct and a one risky with making sci-fi, than all sides completely wrong.
I'll try to copy tye left side with the gentle change on the dunkelgelb stripes.

King Tiger still on my workbench.
Reserching the documents shows that I've got wrong muffler exhausts (schould be older version like on Tiger I's)
It's a pitty that Dragon did'nt make such an option in this kit. Anyway I don't have time nor will to search for proper elements and make tchem fit etc.
The good news is that the Mailly le Camp exemplar had no spare tracks mountings on turret sides. So its a bit less work with PE parts and positioning on the turret (Dragon didn't make any helping points where to glue the elements)
At this stage I'm working with turret.
Soon there will be more from my workbench

Last time I was finishing the rurret and meet the mysterious (for me) elements named "pilzen". What is it and what was it used for? Any ventilation type or masking net mounts? Pilzen is a town in Czech Republic and place where Urquel beer comes from
The front of the model is getting some details
Half of a day I spended on figting with thoe little PE parts to mount the towing cable. Real test of patience...
Hope to make a fast waytrough with the tools and PE clasps. Then the painting

Those are the mounting points for crane/winch used for engine removal. Dragon's latest incarnation of the kit includes that crane:

That is very neat that Dragon chose to include the stiff legged crane in the kit. Kudos Dragon!
Of course that crane assembly will work on many more Panzers as well.

Are you sure you want to mask for this camo job? The original was spray painted.

Yes, I'm sure I want a hard edges instead a blended ones.
I've made a secound masking proces before rottbraun
...and sprayed it all over the model
After removing the tapes my eyes saw this:
In this close-up picture still some small straps are visible before removed
The overall effect with the three colour modulation is fine for me. The next stages will make it much darker
Now the filters and glossy varnish before decals...

Great camo work. It kinda resembles the skin of a dinosaur; one that is very large and very hungry for meat.
