This is a standard US military light system but an older one before I R use. The bracket mounting positions seem to indicate it was inset in an indentation on the vehicle like the LVTP, M578, etc. so your guess is probably a good one, since vehicles like an M60 would have a stem type of mounting. Frenchy's photo shows the The right side lens which is not painted, but is darkened glass and is for the Infrared light projector which is used in conjunction with the driver's infrared viewer when driving in total blackout conditions. Your lens is a standard headlight lens. The shielded light at the top of the cluster is the low light driving light, which projects a dim elongated beam just in front of the vehicle, to assist the driver in seeing the road without the use of the headlights. The small aperture at the bottom of the light is a backlit set of "cats eyes" which glow differently at different distances from the vehicle. I've forgotten the exact distances, but an example would be an observer seeing one "eye" at 50 meters or two "eyes" at 25 meters, there's a corresponding set at the rear of the vehicle-- these are primarily used in no or low light driving in a convoy or road march. The lights would be controlled from a selector switch in the drivers position. If you can rebuild this to a 12v system, and repaint it, it would be a neat addition to a model room, and would make a great night light! But you may need to find a corresponding selector switch--eBay perhaps?
