there are a few model stores in Beijing.
Xinshi Model:No.36 Xinjiekou South Street. It's near Metro line 4, Xinjiekou station.
Liubukou Model: Da Liubukou street. Near Metro line 1, Xidan station.
Bridge Model: No.198 Fangjia Village, Guangqu East Road. This one is also famous in Beijing, and has a very large warehouse. But it's a little far from city center.
Shangshang Model: Jianghuyijia, room 203, Xiaotun Road, Fengtai District. It's near Metro line 14, Guozhuangzi station. Also a little far from city center.

Hi Mr Yu Li -

thank you for posting these - I'll be in Beijing in a few weeks for work - maybe I'll try to sneak in a visit to one or two of these shops -

Best regards,

Nick -

I lived in Beijing for three years and my wife is from there.

There is a hobby shop near Tiananmen Square, near a big book store. They are the distribuitors of Takom.

I will give you the address shortly.

There is also another one not far from that one but I don't think I will be able to get the address.

Another one is near the Camera's market. I will try to give you the address.

Could you olease give me links to direct coordinates on the map on Baidu? I can't find those 2 places:

Liubukou Model: Da Liubukou street. Near Metro line 1, Xidan station.
Bridge Model: No.198 Fangjia Village, Guangqu East Road

Many thanks in advance!

WOW! You guys are great! Who would have guessed a guy from the US could get names and locations for hobby shops half a world away?

OK, Have I slathered it on thick enough yet.

How about Weifang, Shandong, China? I might end up there before the end of the year.

Do they have good deals on the model there? My wife will be there soon and maybe I need to have her get me some kits when she is there. What about shipping from there to USA?

I'm not an expert, but I'd suspect there's a pretty hefty customs tax for shipping stuff on your own from Asia to the US. As an anecdote, when I was being transferred from Korea to Hawaii in 1988, I ran out of time and had to ship my dirty BDUs from the 2nd Division back to Hawaii thru the APO. When my wife was notified by the post office in Hawaii there was a package from me, she went to pick it up, suspecting it was full of "goodies" being sent home. When she got to the APO, they told her there was a $50 customs import tax even though it was it was clearly marked "military clothing". Imagine her surprise when she opened it to find my dirty
BDUs inside after paying the $50. It was not the warmest welcome I was expecting when I got home later that week.

Liubukou Model shop is a good one with a good stock of kits.

They also have voyager and LionRoar photoetch.

In my opinion they have the best prices and is near Tiananmen Square.

They are distributors of Takom.

liubukou has moved to a new address which is a little far from Tiananmen now. It's hard to translate the address in English . There is a map on their website https://shop36872361.taobao.com/

And for Xinshi model, just pay attention it has a second floor. Their website is https://shop35359266.taobao.com

Have fun in Beijing! More interesting places than model shops

It's in the northwest of Yu Quan Ying Qiao, South 3rd ring road. You may take bus 300/49/351/483/631/678/692 and get off at Yu Quan Ying Qiao west. Then go north around 1km. But I think call a taxi is much easier for a foreigher to find the Ruili peace business building. The shop is in room 405.

The US does not charge duty on toys. That is an important element in the success of Asian online shops.

Are there any updates to current BJ hobby shops?

I've been to Xinshi and Fangjia which is on the corner of Andingmen Inner St and Fangjia Hutong.

Are Bridge Model and Shangshang Model still in business at the locations given above?

I ran into the owner of Liubukou Hobby Shop a few months ago near where his old location was and he also said to go to the Ruili Peace Business Building. Haven't been there yet but planning to go soon if I can find the place, about a 30 minute drive from the Tiananmen area. Might also walk from Caoqiao subway station but it looks like the roads are pretty confusing in this area. Any tips on getting to the shop?

I was greatly impressed by the quality of the answers our modeler friend got from his question! Locations, customs taxes etc. I would also love to hear more information about the modeling world and available kits etc from our friend from Beijing.

@vettejack Why would you bother, any of the regular Asian online sellers would have everything they do. Fangjia would not, it is just one tiny shop. Liubukou and Xinshi have taobao sites, if you can read Chinese.

I was there in 2002 and found all the department stores had a fairly good selection of kits in there toy departments.First time I'd heard of Trumpeter.Average cost was $8 Canadian.Had to buy extra luggage to get home.I don't recall paying any duty them.

Always looking for that one deal/cheap postage combination. It's what ex G.I.'s do!
