First, I would like to say hi to everyone, as this is my first post! With that aside, I would like to know if the Hobbycraft Humvee kit in 1/35 is any good. I don't expect it to be great for only $15, but I was wondering if its was at least decent. How is the Hobbycraft line in general? Thanks in advance!

I haven't built the Hummer yet but I do have a few of their other kits. So far They seem to be reboxed Trumpeter kits. For the money I can't complain. I think that you can make a nice example out of these kits.
By the way Welcome to Armorama.

Art??? Welcome to Armorama.
I believe that tat kit is a rebox of the Italeri kit.

It is the CC Lee motorized copy of the Italeri HMMWV. Hobbycraft's armor tends to be reboxes of someone else's stuff so the quality will vary depending on whose plastic is in the box.

I have the British AS-90 at home on the shelf, it looks like it will be a decent kit once I get started on it. Detail is not as good as Academy but it beats the heck out of Esci!!!

AS-90 is reboxed Trumpeter model and it is indeed a decent kit.
And it is obvious that you have never seen ESCI M60 kits, recently reboxed by Revell of Germany and Italeri These are the best M60 models available in 1/35 - much better than Tamiya and Academy kits and detail is much better than in Trumpeter/Hobbycraft AS-90.

Pawel

I have 2 Esci kits sitting on my shelf that I use for parts and they are by far the cheapest models I've ever bought (a BMP-1 & Leopard 2).

I second the vote for the Esci M60A1 and M60A3. Great kits that are still the top M60s almost 20 years later. The Leopard is bad as are the Esci T-72, T-74, M1, and M1A1. The Esci T-55, T-55M and Ti-67 were the best things going until Tamiya put out a T-55. The Esci BMP-1 and BMP-2 were about equal with the DML ones (both had pluses and minues).

We won't talk about the Esci HMMWV series though. I did hear some positive words about their WW2 German stuff, but I've only got a horse drawn convoy wagon from that series.

As I said, Hobbycraft's quality is going to be dependent on whose kit is in the box.

I have built (actually finishing it tonight) the hobbycraft special forces humvee. It is stated in the December issue of FSM, that Hobbycrafts Humvees are reboxes of Trumpeter ones. This being said there is alot to say about the kit. The interior has sinkholes that are very visible without the top. Also, holes for motorization to plug and simplification of the interior for this reason require alot of work. I have a noticable gap between the rear canvas cover and the doors. The tires have NO tread and the rims have the extended hub (both relieved by the Trax wheel set). the head lights have two nubs inside the area for the clear disc to glue to. Drill them out and replace them with MV lenses. I foun that the rear tail gate had two huge plastic nubbs extending out from the inside. I decided to cut them free with my sprue cutter.......first one, I cut too flush and I created a hole through the rear gate.......can you say tarp roll? All in all.....it is worth $15 but it truely needs help.......and love.
