It's been about 7 years since discharge and seen a moterpool. I never been around a sand colored HUMVEE up close. My unit always had 3 colored NATO. I was wondeing if any active duty folks can answer a question about the M1025 HUMVEE hard top (Tamiya MM-263) interior colors that sport the sand camo paint exterior on our vehicles in Iraq today. Are they still green inside? Or has depot ordinence painted the interior sand as well...or portions like just inside the doors. Also if the HUMVEE comes off the procution line in the 3 color NATO scheme...what stays green down below the body when depot ordenance paints them sand for mid-east deployment. Tamiya instructions color call outs also list a few areas that are bare natueral metal like differentials and transfer case and fuel tanks. Does the desert sand camo color reach to down there too?

Whats the book say and your observatins? And as always there are exceptions.
Good luck...stay safe
Whooha!

I'm sorry I'm not an active vet but I did spend a couple days watching them paint the vehicles like when Desert Shield started, I was watching them slap on the sand color on every vehicle they could, but I never seen them do anymore then what was visible, just the tops, they didn't have time for everything as they told me, and it was the same thing when they came back, they slapped the green back on them. I asked them how come they just didn't leave them sand colored, and they said just orders, so then again when it started up again I watched them throw the sand back on them, and all the ones I watched was done outside under a roof and they were painting them pretty fast, just as soon as he got one done he went to the next one in line, of course there was more then one guy painting, and that was just one base, and as they dried I watched them drive them off and pull more green ones up to be painted. So I imagine it was the same all over at the other bases to. I hope this helps.

SE is correct, a hardtop HMMWV does not have the interior repainted. I have seen hardtop HMMWVs manufactured in tan. These vehicles have the entire body painted in sand during the manufacturing process. Tan canvas and interior cushioning is used, and even tan plastic parts are used. Some parts such as the headlight control switch, directional blinker arm and the individual dashboard dials ae still made in green though.

Thanks fellas! Major Rob's Motopool pics answers all the questions.
Great link!

Also good to hear that painting goes on at unit maintenence levels just like the good old days in the 80's when I had puchased a few spray guns with unit funds to get the company all camoed up in 4 color MERDIC scheme.

I was the Earl Shibe of Katterbach

As a folowup after checkng out the Rob's Motorpool pictures I shuld have panted the frame and stuff underneth the HUMVEE as subassemblies. There really is a lot of different colors going on down there. The glue wasn't that dry so I pried it apart and whent on with that. Looks good and makes a lot of sense now.

I never looked around down there I just drove them!

My praises to Major Rob!
