Hello,
I have two questions regarding the kit. It is marked as "later version".
First, which tracks are more common for the "later" version? I want to replace the supplied tracks with Bronco tracks. Still T-97E2 tracks or T-142?
Is the barrel with bore evacuator or without (as in the kit) more common?
Thanks.
Thomas

I haven't seen every picture of the M60A2s in action but the ones I have show them with T142s. Its only a guess based on my time in M551s in the late 70s, about the same time as the A2s were in service, we had many more gun tubes without evacuators then with 5 to 1 or better. Since the closed breech scavenger system made them unnecessary they were phased out early on.

The T-142 track was more common later in their service life; however there a photos of M60a2's with T-97 track as late as 1980. The barrel without evacuator is a "late" feature, but there are lots of photos to show tanks with the evacuator barrel until the end of service. (The evacuator was disabled.)

Unless the tube wore out it would not be changed. Same with tracks. When I got to Germany in 77 most tanks had the T142 track. But in the austere Carter years tracks would be run until worn out. So many variants co existed.

Gents,
Apart from using a barrel with evacuator, what else do I need to do if I wanna do an 'early version' of the A2?
Thanks in advance,
Will

Early on side loaded air cleaners were used. At least on test vehicles, I'm not sure about the in service ones.

When my unit received ours in Vilseck,Germany, in 1975-76,there were 3 distinct types of Gun tubes.
With Bore evacuator (the inner jets were welded closed, so the CBSS would do the work.)
No Bore evacuator, but the larger diameter mounting areas were still on the tube.
No bore evacuator,smooth tube.
If you are building a freshly drawn vehicle, any of these possibilities for a tube would be correct.
As for the aircleaner "boxes".All of the ones in 75-76 in the 1/37th armored were top loading, unarmored. Those are in the kit. (S-7,S-8,S-1, S-4) If there are photos of the armored ones, those vehicles may have been assembeled near the end of the production run.
Track, as issued to us, T-97E2,and after about a year, we wore them out nad replaced them with T-142.
Your mileage may vary.

Many thanks to all of you. So it will be the kit barrel without bore evacuator and T-142 track.
