I have been having a problem with the Humbrol Metal Cote Gunmetal flaking off my weapons when I attempt to polish them. I applied the paint over Modelmaster Acryl Gray Primer and a light coat of Acryl Clear Flat. Anyone have any suggestions of what I have been doing wrong or how I can correct this problem?

paint it onto bare model, airbrush it if possible, also dont leave it too long when polishing it, i find its best to do it as soon as its dry

Joe, thanks for the suggestion regarding painting on bare plastic. That should work well on armor as I can mask or leave MGs off until after painting, however that is more difficult with my figures, as I have found my best technique is to assemble them completely and then start painting. Masking their weapons will prove difficult if not impossible. Any suggestions as to what I might be able to paint the weapons as an undercoat to alleviate the problem?
