I am more of a wingy thingy person, but I am to the point of prepping a Pzkfw Mk1 for paint in DAK colors:
Question: which color is appropriate for DAK?
RLM 79 (Tamiya XF59:3 + XF64:1
Tamiya XF 59
Tamiya XF 60

None of those are actually correct. RLM colors are for aircraft, anyway. Early DAK vehicles would be RAL 8000 gelbbraun, with 1/3 marked with RAL 7008 graügrun. After March 1942 those colors would change to RAL 8020/7027.
Tamiya doesn't make an exact match for those but Model Master does and Vallejo has some very close ones. Looking at my shelf, XF49 seems the closest to 8000, but I don't see anything good for 7008.

Gunze H402 Grunbraun is best match for RAL 8000 IMHO (early DAK), Vallejo also has good matches as said
Cheers!

Hi Bob,
As an option -- if it's a Pz I I'd go by a storyline that it got to Africa still in its dunkelgrau paint and that its desert scheme was more a field job of trying to make it blend with the environment. As such I'd paint it with a mix of Tamiya Dark Yellow and Buff -- leaning towards a lighter, sandy shade, with some areas showing dunkelgrau underneath.

All the above.
A Panzer I as stated would be present early in the campaign. Dark Gray, RAL 8000 over dark gray, or some shade of sand color would be acceptable.
Lots of wear and tear with gray showing through.
Another option would be the hand-applied mud camouflage, similar to the job being done on this SdKfz 232 or this one, which would give the opportunity to have texture in the applied camouflage, interesting variations in coverage (boot and hand prints -- boot scuffing off the mud, hand print applying it), and different types of wear.
