My question is about the engine in it.. is it similar in shape to the T-72 or T-90 engines? I was thinking of getting an old Skif kit to build it as a destroyed vehicle, so I'm just interested in the general shape of the engine, since I'll be making it all burned out.. no detailing or anything.
Thanks in advance

Facts collected from Wikipedia and Google
Gvozdika engine is a YaMZ-238N V-8 diesel of 220 kw (300 hp)
and this YouTube clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea5PL7-GJOM
shows it running with the covers over the valves removed.
video clip with the valve covers in place:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewBF6sJa_KM
The T-72 has a V-12 diesel of 780 hp (more than twice the power, twice the number of cylinders and probably close to twice as big .....)
YouTube clip showing start-up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBnm5p1J9Do
My opinion is that the engines are not similar enough for what you are trying to achieve

As Rob shows above, no, the 2S1 engine is mush smaller than a T-72/90 engine. It has the same engine as an MTLB, which is close to what is in the BMP1/2 series of vehicles.

Thanks for those links... So, I guess the old Maquette V-2 T-34 engine won't work either? I need something that looks like a V-8 in 1/35, or 1/32 scale.. Hmmm...

Building the Trumpeter MTLB right now, yes the engine in the video is similar to the one in the MTLB kit. That's one expensive way to get an engine.

Nooooo!! I was thinking of getting the old Maquette T-34 engine.. it's only $6.. and all I need is just the general shape of the engine... I guess I have to keep looking

The old T-34 engine would probably work as burned-out, destroyed engine, esp. if you have it partially covered with debris/ash/burned, etc...

Here is the MTLB engine from trumpeter before I painted it up and installed it in the kit. It's not that close to the T34 engine.
Like I said...partially covered and obscured so you can tell there is a v-type engine in there, but not necessarily what exact type. The T-34 engine can be modified to look more like it w/the air cleaner, intake manifolds, generator, and other parts on the top being added as well.

I understand it doesn't look the same.. but I figured a burned out, charred and rusted out engine, where the fire probably melted out some parts.. or maybe some parts blew off the engine.. and like Gino said, cover it up with dirt and stuff... just so it looks like there was once a V-8 engine in there. Ages ago, I believe Shep Paine called it "gizmology" or something like that, where it doesn't have to be an exact copy of the engine, but it would give a somewhat convincing shape of the engine.
You guys should know by now that I'm not a stickler for detail.. I'm just an average OOB modeller.. sometimes I like to try and do something a little extra, so I ask around just to keep things reasonably believable.. Basically, the only people who will see my work are myself and maybe a couple of friends on FB
Thanks a lot for you help
Oh, and by the way, Greg, that's some nice work you're doing on the MTLB there

If you busy up the V-2, add an alternator or two and some pipes it could work.

Talking about V8's, maybe the old Tamiya M113 Chrysler engine could be another option ?

Hey, Henri-Pierre.. I never thought about that one.. and I already have at least 3 or 4 old Academy M113s... The size will definitely be closer.. just needs some dressing up with some pipes and stuff. Thanks for suggesting it

Hisham,
I have a few 2S1 manuals which include engine and ancillaries drawings. Email me at Rob.lockie01 'at' gmail.com if you would like info from them.

Hey Robert,
If you have something showing how the engine sits in the engine bay with all the piping and wiring and all that, I'd appreciate something like that.
I'll send you my e-mail adr. by private message.. and for the future, it would probably be best not to post your e-mail adr. here.. better to send it by private message
Thank you
Hisham

Just to complete Robert's offer :
The picture above shows a MT-LB engine bay, but I guess the 2S1 one should be quite similar if not the same

That's the sort of thing. I have no idea how private messaging works or I'd probably have tried that....
Ha, just found it with a load of unread messages in there too!
Will email you later.
