I'm not certain that the kit instructions name the proper colors for the figures. Can anyone tell me if they've done such figures, and what colors and shades to use? I assume some variation in tones, but not too much.

German uniforms in 1914 were still very uniform in fabrication and tone. So you'd have the classic green-grey field grey jacket and trousers and brown equipment.
There was little variation in tone yet being prior to introduction of any wartime economy measures and ersatz materials.
