I am doing the sand and green found in the 3rd Armored units near the border of Kuwait. I am looking for the closest match in acrylics.

You couldn't possibly go wrong with various shades of burned out...
Sorry, just couldn't resist...
Seriously, I think Tamiya's Dark Yellow lightened and some kind of dark(ish) grey-green lightened would do the trick. I wouldn't go for the exact colors anyway (unless you want to build a factory fresh vehicle), since paint in desert climate fades VERY quickly...

"SHADES OF BURNED OUT!!!"- PRICELESS!!!
Seriously, now- I really don't know either, but what I would do is either eyeball a color photo of a more-or-less intact Iraqi vehicle, and "mix-to-match" that, or if you have any other Iraqi vehicle kits, such as the BRONCO Iraqi YW-531C kit, check the color references in the kit's instructions. Maybe one of the experts in the Gulf War can elaborate or clarify..?

Most of the Iraqi Armour at Taji were various shades of sand, some were almost grey while others were a bright mustard colour.
I don't believe there would be the perfect colour it's simply a matter of find a sand tone that you like or a reference pic and fade or mix your own.
Tamiya Dark yellow would be a good Base start with same with deck tan.

Hi;
Gulf war sand, mixed with A drop of flat white, the same method for the Green, russian armor green. Depending on how much fading that I want to depict, I will also use A Flat lite gray for the Green. The best reference picture that I use the most, is of A T-72 that was taken from the front with the 125mm sagging toward the ground.
CHEERS; MIKE.

'Gulf war sand'? Is that what Iraq called its paint (seems unlikely given that countries don't usually name paint after a war in which it was in use) or is that someone's (like a model paint manufacturer) ex post description? If so, it seems anyway to be of somewhat limited utility, given that multiple countries were involved and all procured their paint through different supply channels and the name is a little non-specific as regards which country's paint it represents.
I'm not picking on you but it's really more of a moan about companies which make things up and then people end up quoting them as though they are the outcome of actual research. Made up names (and most of the model paint companies are at it) given us very little useful information when trying to depict accurate colour schemes (or at least schemes which are within acceptable margins of error).

I believe he is referring to Testors Model Master Army/Marines Gulf Armor Sand (4812), which was based on commercially purchased paint in Saudi Arabia that was quickly (and sloppily) applied to US vehicles as they entered Saudi before being sent forward into the desert.
For Iraqi armor, any sand will do. I saw similar tanks as Cuny12 saw. None had the same color of sand and nothing looked standard. I don't think the Iraqi Army was too concerned with standardized paint colors.

Im only telling you that was what I used; As was said by other's, just about any sand color will Work ! Personal Choice and reference are the most Prefered method for most Project's ! Again; I only gave my method as what I used, and is Not the Golden Rule !!!!--If Mr.Smith Does not like it, he is still able to choose the Color's that work's best for his project.

Thanks all. Compared to my M60A1 some were a browner shade, a grayer shade or more sun faded. I didn't think about it but the russian green would be about right for the green. And yes , quite a few were in various stages of scorched.
