I was wondering which of the Leopolds would you choose? The Dragon or the Trumpeteer?

Trumpeteer has more parts on the railtrucks. But I bought and built the Dragon.Look for online reviews,to see if there are any special building concerns with each.

Personally, I would go with the Trumpeter (wait, I did). The detail is much better and I feel it to be a bit more accurate. However, it has more parts, which turns some folks off. It will take you a lot longer to build. Infact, I can't remember the exact numbers, but someone had mentioned that DML sells like 3-8 times as many Leopolds as Trumpeter.

Hello Herchealer,
Check out this thread Here for more info and a link to a great online side by side review. BTW, I went with the Trumpeter myself as well.

I personally got the Trumpeter, mainly because it was easier to get and cheaper. But it's a hell lot of pieces.

Last month's Fine Scale Modeler magazine had a good workbench review comparing both kits. It might still be on the shelf at your local hobbyshop with the old magazines or you can try Fine Scale's site to see if that article is posted there as well.

I built the DML for the local hobby shop and i have the Trumpeter (b-day gift) for myself and i have to say the Trumpeter is a little better. So i recommend the Trumpeter kit. HTH

Hi. I got the Trumpeter kit here last summer and am well satisified with it. Although it's only about 1/3 done and sitting out in the garage waiting for warmer weather. I'm well satisfied with it. Now the only reason I happen to buy it over the Dragon kit is from what I read about it on PMMS and decided I wanted the one with more parts to it. And quite actually that was about the only reason I did choose this one. But most of the extra pieces to it are in the two railroad cars and a lot of this isn't going to really be seen, except by the builder. So you have to consider if this is worth the extra price of the Trumpeter over the Dragon.
Your choice. Good luck and take care, Sgirty

Sabot is right. The review is up on the FSM website. You do have to be registered to get to the review, though. Just an FYI.

I bought the DML one as it came out first yes paid the full price, still sits on the shelf waiting to get built.
In other terms it will take awhile to build either one!
No 2 day model here!
With the metal barrel available from Mission Models and armo I think what could be better, see the price on DML's as come down a bunch I paid $100.00 plus for mine!

Everything that I've seen on the net shows that the Trumpeter is by far the superior kit in terms of detail.

I have seen the reviews of both kits, and have seen the price tag on each, the trumpeter kit costing the most of both kits.
I personally bought the Trumpeter kit based on money and detail. If I was going to put down alot of money on it, I wanted the one which was more accurate and have not regretted it. So what if it has more parts, if I was afraid of more parts, then I would not have gotten into this hobby in the first place.

The Trumpeter kit is where I would go. They just released a special figure set to go with it, so it ought to be the classy way to go. Might cost a bit more, but it's like the old commercial/joke....aww I could have had a V-8 (refering to a Mustang or a Mustang GT)

I would definitly go with Trumpeter because I find them to have more details as well as engines. Dragon models are also nice, however they have some fit problems and their instructions are sometimes unclear, especially on the older kits.
