Hi Group,

This is my build of the SDV Models T-34/85 vz. 1944.

This 1/87 (HO in model railroad scales) is a new injection molded kit with a small photo-etched fret.

It requires some clean up after cutting the parts from the thick sprues, and the carving of some excess plastic from some notches to allow the upper hull to fit over the rear fenders. Otherwise fit is good. There is some flash to remove, too, although it is thin enough to brush off with my fingers.

Liquid glue filled in the slight gaps well. But that made glue-squishies that needed to be shaved off the turret. That removed some of the foundry casting roughness from the turret. I used liquid glue and a stiff brush to make it rough again.

After all the fiddly parts were applied, including tiny P/E grab irons, she got primed.

The prototype (with the ZIL gun) was 8,100mm in length, or 26.57 feet; SDV's model scales out to a skosh over 26 1/2 feet from muzzle to rear fenders.

Last night I installed the final parts and painted the model with a custom mix of 4B0. For WWII Red Army armor I use the light olive interpretation of 4B0.

For fun, here are two discussions I found:
Russian Green (Again) Sorry

4B0 Green

So, I mixed up the 4B0 and then, while the paint was still damp, mixed up some washes of greens and khakis and used my splatter method to apply them.

Tonight I'll put on the decals. Here's the model in two 1/87 dioramas:

Decals are on. Washes applied. Lifecolor East European Dust liquid pigments and paints applied. This neat little T-34/85 is complete!

@ JPTRR - Fredrick,

That is a really well detailed kit for something this small. Clean build and executed weathering.

Thanks for sharing and posting here.

Hi Eddy,

I appreciate that. The Marder III has been built and primed. Watch for it.
