That the aircraft sister site to Armorama (Aeroscale) has absolutely no forum for dioramas due to a "lack of interest", as described by a few folks there?
I find this very sad.
So I have a question! If I start to do a dio, with water, that technically doesn't involve armor but will have at least one mounted gun on an aircraft, would anyone mind if I posted it here?
Your thoughts, please. All advice considered and pondered!

Hi Patrick
although there's no water check out "The last Dornier Do335" thread in this forum - last posted on June 14th currently on page 6. I'm not sure what's happening to it, Greg seems to be taking his time. He was going to put a half-track in it but the focus was/will be the plane.
I don't have a problem with widening the subject-matter, besides if any part of your aircraft had armour such as behind the pilot's head then I'd say you win on a technicality.
Cheers, Tim

I love rationalization! My line of thinking exactly!

Put a fuel truck or 88mm AA gun in the dio & we'd be happy.

I would say post it regardless if you have armor or not. The technique someone could learn from should be the goal not getting bent around the axle if and to what degree the elements have armor included. My two cents anyway.

Hmmm, that might be problematic as I don't envision an amphibious vehicle in the scene...

Since the dioramas forum has an aircraft category at the top, I would think you are good to go.Wayne

As to "widening the subject matter," or "what degree the elements have armor included," there will likely be two camps. The purists who'll insist that if it isn't driven or towed and then pointed & fired at something, it really isn't armor, per se. The other extreme are those odd folks that paint their Panthers pink and put those awful anime figures on them and call it a diorama. Take the Tank Hunters Campaign that's currently on. It could be argued that various aircraft whose primary function is tank-busting should be allowed into that group. All that aside, I agree with Tim & Ryan, go ahead and post it. I can recall a number of dios posted here using aircraft with little more than a couple soldiers inspecting the crash, etc.

Thanks! My thoughts exactly! There is more to be learned from others and I am a perfect example of this! I knew nothing about rusting and water and trees and figures and now I have some of the best mentors in the modeling business! And I won't ever forget that!

You know, Wayne, I never even saw that and you are correct! There is an entire category for aircraft here! Thanks so much! But I want the group here involved for input as well! Thanks again!

Hello Patrick,
Personally I don't think it's a "lack of interest" in dioramas over at Aeroscale, it's how much "action" or story line can you get out of the aircraft. And I can understand why. Prop movement, bomb drops, gun fire, missile firing, ground impact of rounds on water, land, buildings, or other aircraft are difficult to relate in any scale. Thus most, not all, would prefer to show aircraft sitting on the ground before or after action.
The late Sheperd Paine as some aircraft examples in his "How to make Dioramas." book, which you may have read which touches, on some of the things one can do with aircraft models. The TBD-1 diorama in the book is a good example of use of water effects.
Now if your combining different scales, 1/35th armor and 1/72nd aircraft, or 1/72nd armor and 1/32nd aircraft, then you are getting into a "forced perspective" diorama which is hard to pull off, granted you have a large area, which most of us don't have, but it can be done.
There have been dioramas posted on Aeroscale, just not to the level they have been done here on Armorama. Thus the demand for a "Diorama" thread is not pressing.
My two cents.
See ya in the funnies.........

Thank you for that insight into the thinking over on the sister site.
I agree that getting same kind of feeling for an aircraft in action versus that of ground pounder arty or mechanized infantry is hard to do and can see why. Yet, off the top of my head, I can think of several scenarios that would work well with aircraft.
As far as the dio in the book, do you mind if I send you a PM regarding this? I have a question or two. (Edited 9/15/16- I have found a picture of Mr. Paine's dio and it is almost the same as my idea. I may have seen the dio at some point in my life and been influenced by it. My idea is different in scope so I may proceed... or I may not as I don't want to be doing a George Harrison or Vanilla Ice on anyone here... PN)
Thanks in advance.

I have always thought that the forum was named "Dioramas" and so anything that was a dio was A-OK.
In the past I have posted old pics of a u-boat dio and also a AR-234 dio and nobody whined and moaned so I say-Post away Sir,
But it's not really up to me.

OK I give up - Jack where is this Tank Hunters campaign of which ye speak? I've trawled back 4 or 5 years and I see it not.

Aha thanks guys, I found the Campaign but the original post was er a bit longer than a week or two ago so thanks for the link too. Alas according to that campaign’s rules I’m disqualified because my Ju87 tank-buster’s already finished, fair enough.
Brian – you may/may not have seen that scale-mixing issue was discussed in the Last Dornier post mentioned above (& no doubt is a recurring topic elsewhere) but it was mainly about 1/32 planes vs 1/35 AFVs/figures. Never thought about 1/72 but agree it probably would be trickier. I posted a few of these shots there to hopefully demonstrate 1/32 vs 1/35 needn’t be an obstacle.
So Patrick you’re cleared for take-off and shouldn’t get shot down in flames...even if your kit sounds like it will have been. What’s it going to be btw?
Cheers, Tim
