Hi guys - I was wondering if anyone knows what the crew of an M109A6 would wear? Standard tanker crew overalls or standard BDUs? With or without the tankers helmet? I'm trying to procure a figure for mine. I've narrowed it down to one of these two...

or

Both are from Alpine.

Thanks for the help.

Paladin crewmen wear the same uniform (NOMEX coveralls and/or UCP/OCP camo uniforms) and helmets (CVC - Combat Vehicle Crewmen) as tankers do.

When working on/around the outside of the gun, they also wear standard Kevlar helmets as well...

...just as tankers do.

Basically all armored vehicle crewmen use the same gear. So any modern tanker figure would also work on a Paladin.

I can't see your pics, but assume you are talking about Alpine's two newer tanker figures, one of the below. Both are pretty "modern", depending on when you want to depict.

Their Modern US AFV Crew set (35071) are pretty current. They still have the old IBAS vests which were replaced around '07-'08 with the IOTV vest, but are close enough to modern to work. They are also wearing ACUs which were issued about '06-'07 through current. Also, they could be painted in the newer OCP camo (Operational Camo Pattern - looks like old woodland BDUs) as opposed to the UCP camo (Universal Camo Pattern - digital grays) as the uniform cut is basically the same.

Their US OIF Tank Crew set (35025) would also work. There is the same issue with the vest, but they are also in Nomex CVC uniforms for a little variety.

They look like a good fit for the pictures Gino posted.

These would work well for modern Paladin crewmen. A note, they are wearing UCP NOMEX CVC uniforms (coveralls). You can tell by the zippers at the bottoms of the legs on the outside. They could also be painted as OD, sand, or OCP NOMEX CVC uniforms as well, again, the cut being the same, just different camo patterns.

Like I said, just about any "modern" tank crew figures could be used on a Paladin, depending on when you want to depict. There are lots of options out there.

Thanks for the help guys!

Gino - those are the right sets from Alpine, I was just looking at the individual soldiers.

I have built the AFV Paladin and I am looking at doing a simple base with a single figure, just to add a little more interest. Time frame was going to be pretty non-specific, Just sometime in the conflict in Iraq, probably earlier since it is piled full of stowage and gear.

Those Miniart figures actually look like they may be good for an Abrams build that I have planned...

Thanks again folks!

Good deal. For early in Iraq, esp. invasion (Mar-Apr '03), the US OIF Tank Crew set (35025) is more appropriate.

Thanks Gino! Yeah - I am going that route.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for the base color of the green overalls?

Thanks
Mike
