Does anyone know of a black lacquer primer similar to Tamiya's surface primers (in the rattle can). I can't use enamels, and I like the versatility of Tamiya...just wish they did black.

Hi,
I'm using Gunze Mr.Finishing surfacer 1500 Black (in bottle, thinned with Leveling thinner), and for me it's the best primer (and I've tried a lot, both acrylic and lacquer). It's available also in rattle can.

Regards

Games workshop is making one too, often used by figure painters.

I agree with Venelin... Mr Surfacer 1500 Black is the best primer.. I airbrush it thinned down with Tamiya lacquer thinner.. works great.

Alclad makes lacquer primers as well. I use their grey primer and it's fantastic.

Thanks guys. I like the look of the Mr. Surfacer black in the rattle can. I would airbrush the stuff, but my sinuses can't take too much...so I usually like to prime outside (hence why I love the Tamiya cans). I'll have to give the MS a try soon.

Not trying to be cute or anything but if you used a respirator, some of your issues might be easier.

No respirator (at least not those sold in stores) is perfect. The fumes still linger, and I would much rather just use "hot" paints outside.
