I've heard of some Achzarits having been converted to armored ambulances. Yes? No? Maybe? Early or late version? Armed or un armed? What mods? Are they set up for grab and run or are they set up for ALS?

Desert Eagle Publishing`s Achzarit book has some images of the Ambulance version. Only external differences are an step attached on the rear ramp and the relocation of the OWS to the left vehicle side.

The ambulance Achzarit uses the "initial", all riveted hull, but otherwise, it is the rear step, a tactical window in the rear ramp, and the RCWS is moved to the left, that identifies it from a regular APC.

hth, and PM me if you need reference

Kylie
ps, what is "ALS"?

ALS = Advanced Life Support
In this case it means giving treatment in the ambulance, the other method would be to load the casualty and drive as fast as possible to a hospital.

I found this article:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24237597
containing this text:
"CONCLUSIONS:

In MCIs occurring in remote areas, policy makers should consider revising the current evacuation plan so that only immediate unstable casualties should be transferred to the closest primary hospital. On site Advanced Life Support (ALS) should be administered to non-severe casualties until they can be evacuated directly to tertiary care hospitals. First responders must be trained to provide ALS to non-severe casualties until evacuation resources are available."

MCI in the text above means "mass-casualty incident"

Thanks All. Was looking at some photos of the APC version.... Where did the weapons station get mover to? To the left side would require the driver's position to be totally redone, no?Is it on the centerline (left of normal spot) or is it aft of the driver's station. Also, are they marked as ambulances?

The rcws was moved back and to the left, behind the driver's station. And yes, the ambulance was marked differenly to an APC, there is a Star of David on the sides of the hull. Check your reference as there may be specific markings on individual vehicles.
