Hello Hans,

You raise a good question. I have seen similar paint jobs on equipment featured in the training films of that era. Perhaps it allowed for evaluation of a camouflage scheme and added visual interest for a training film, even in black and white.

There is another video that you may find interesting that shows a comparison between the MBT-70 and the M60A2 on YouTube. I am not familiar with providing links, but, typing in the nomenclature should get you in the grid square.
