Hallo Gruppe,

Time has come to start a model all for me. I love the old Bandais and continue to makes reviews and even more reviews. This is my first Bandai build, one I've been meaning to start for about 8 years. (Maybe next I'll start their 1/24 King Tiger with full interior?)

First, the engine:

Next, transmission:

I now pronounce you...

Lower hull:

Are you planning to scratch any fighting compartment interior? I started this years ago, but gave up because the entire interior has to be redone, and because lack of reference. I still have the unfinished model so I may be able to copy some of your work.

Hi Biggles,

I have entered an AMS (Advanced Modeler Syndrome) rehab XXX step program, so this kit is intended to be OOB. Whether I can be strong and NOT try to scratchbuild things remains to be seen. But for now, I am planning it to be the dubious model that Bandai boxed.

I have some vague references that can be used for general additions. Just fighting the urge.

I built this in the mid 1970's about the time the term AMS was coined. I may still have the drive train in my spare parts box.

If you have a Tamiya Wespe that is a good reference on most of the details Bandai forgot or made extra chunky.

Except the Tamiya kit is also missing a number of details in the fighting compartment.

And I am willing to live with that. But it has more than the Bandai and can serve as a guide to filling it up a touch.

You want to see a bare Wespe interior build the Matchbox kit.

Several years ago, when 1/48 rebirth was still pretty new, I managed to get a Bandai Wespe. I bought a Tamiya Wespe for exactly this reason! Years later, I've abandoned 1/48 modeling, and instead picked up some AM for the Tamiya kit (driver's compartment & workable tracks).

Damon.

Not shown here but Bandai would include photos of dioramas. I still like the panzergray Panthers and Kingtigers rolling through palm tree oases.

I can see, in the centre of the third photo up, one of the trolls that is provided to crew this Wespe... I very fondly recall building this kit in about 1978, having been given it without instructions or tracks, but I loved it. While the detail is simplified, compared to the Airfix kits I was used to, I remember it fitting together very well and having sharply defined moulding, as well as quite good decals. The troglodyte crew and the jerrycans however are beyond the pale.

Fred, we have discussed our shared affection for these kits before, and I'm looking forward to seeing this one come together.

Matt, Shell, et. al.,

Thanks for the participation.

Until I can work on the model, I'll finish a task I started years ago, posting scans of Bandai ads.

Incredible that 3 months have already gone by. More progress soon, I hope.
